Applications of Electromagnetic Acoustic Testing (EMAT)

Dear Colleagues,

In recent years, we have seen the rapid development of electromagnetic acoustic testing (EMAT) techniques and their great success in applications in the fields of nondestructive testing (NDT) and structure health monitoring (SHM) thanks to their non-contact and coupling-free features. However, EMAT techniques still face a significant number of challenges, and new demands from industries are constantly emerging. This Special Issue is therefore dedicated to recent advances in the research and development of new EMAT transducers and systems, as well as to novel and innovative applications of established techniques in the fields of NDT and SHM. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

• Electromagnetic acoustic transducers for ultrasonic bulk waves, surface wave, and guided wave;
• Magnetostrictive patch transducers for ultrasonic bulk waves, surface wave, and guided wave;
• Sensor networks;
• EMAT-based NDT&E, SHM, and material characterization.
