Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Cardiovascular diseases result in millions of deaths around the globe annually, most of which are avoidable if identified early. Preventive healthcare has a major role in the fight against cardiovascular diseases. This Special Issue presents a collection of papers concerning the state of the art and new frontiers in secondary prevention in cardiovascular medicine. Firstly, it discusses the role of risk stratification after an acute event, the impact of associate clinical conditions and the challenge of adherence and mental health care in cardiac patients. Secondly, it analyzes the role of interventions in optimizing lifestyle and the management of different risk factors associated with cardiovascular diseases. Finally, it discusses the role of new technologies, cardiac rehabilitation and epigenetics in cardiovascular secondary prevention.

Management of cardiovascular risk factors is suboptimal in the context of secondary prevention, despite the high risk of cardiovascular events and the absolute benefit of effective risk factor treatment. This is because secondary cardiovascular prevention pathways are complex and difficult to organize, including the need for diagnostic and therapeutic interventions from a multidisciplinary team in a patient-centered integrated model. The aim of this Special Issue is to increase the sensitivity about this fundamental area of cardiovascular medicine.
