Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Climate change (including global warming and drought) affects the terrestrial energy and mass budgets by many different processes. These processes modify both the rates of carbon uptake and release by plant photosynthesis/respiration and the amount of precipitation/evapotranspiration. Many studies have been done to understand the impact of climate change on the spatial and seasonal variability of carbon and water balance at local and global scales. Both ground-based observations and remote sensing can provide an effective way to evaluate the response of terrestrial carbon and water cycle to climate change. However, no consensus has yet been reached regarding the effect of climate change and its extremes on carbon and water balance.

This Special Issue aims to publish both review and original research papers related to the following research topics:

  • Monitoring and modelling terrestrial ecosystems carbon and water cycles: strategies and methodologies;
  • Terrestrial carbon and water cycles: results on specific site(s) or global scale;
  • Climate change impacts on terrestrial carbon and water cycles: threats and opportunities;
  • Plant responses to climatic change: structures and functions  (especially photosynthesis);
  • Climate dynamics over the last millennia: High-resolution proxy climate records.

This Special Issue is open to contributions such as review papers and focus papers presenting strategies, methodologies, or approaches on the carbon and water cycles with observations from different platforms. Inter-comparisons of ground-based measurements and remote sensing data are especially welcome. Contributions addressing climate variability over the last millennia are also welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2500 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
