Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The rapid maturation of multiple digital and telemedicine technologies in recent years, especially artificial intelligence (AI) and genomics, offered an unprecedented opportunity for health care to move into new era by applying digital innovations. Ophthalmology has dramatically thrived in these areas partly due to its many image-based investigations.

Since 2012, the accuracy of a convolutional neural network (CNN) has been improved by training and validating on vast amounts of data (e.g., image recognition and speech recognition). In terms of image processing, it has already been demonstrated that deep learning algorithms can be trained, using large medical datasets and without having to specify lesion-based features. The genomics has significantly changed the clinical practice. The use of genomic-based molecular diagnostics including prognostic genomic signatures and new-generation sequencing has become routine for clinical decisions. Studies supported that deep learning and genomics are ideal techniques that have the great potential to impact eye care significantly in targeted and effective screening, risk stratification, and treatment response.

This Special Issue of Healthcare seeks commentaries, original research, short reports, and reviews aiming to provide an updated panorama of achievements and challenges in eye health care applying AI and genomics, especially how the techniques benefit the patients with ocular diseases in real world, to uncover future aspect of research in ophthalmology.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Healthcare is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
