Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With this Special Issue, we aim to present and disseminate the latest advances in alternative fuel combustion in internal combustion engines. Our goal is to promote a comprehensive discourse on the following areas:

  • Biofuels and biofuel blends: combustion characteristics of various biofuels, such as ethanol, biodiesel and biogas, and their blends with conventional fuels;
  • Hydrogen and ammonia as fuels: hydrogen and ammonia injection and combustion, safety and infrastructure issues;
  • Combustion efficiency: improving combustion efficiency and reducing emissions, especially nitrogen oxides (Nox) and particulate matter (PM); strategies such as lean burn combustion, exhaust gas recirculation, and advanced combustion modes;
  • Advanced engine technologies;
  • Dual-fuel and flex-fuel engines;
  • Combustion modelling and simulation: advances in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and numerical simulations;
  • Combustion control and sensors: developing advanced control algorithms and sensors to precisely control the combustion process and monitor emissions in real time;
  • Emission reduction technologies: research into technologies such as catalytic converters, particulate filters, and selective catalytic reduction systems (SCR);
  • Environmental impact assessment: comprehensive studies to evaluate the environmental impact of using alternative fuels in internal combustion engines, including life cycle assessments (LCA);
  • Carbon capture and utilization: research into technologies used for capturing and utilizing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from internal combustion engines to reduce their environmental impact;
  • Hybrid and electric technologies: hybrid powertrains and range-extended electric vehicles involving internal combustion engines powered using alternative fuels as generators.

We invite researchers and experts in the field to contribute their valuable insights and research findings to this Special Issue. By collaborating and sharing our collective knowledge, we aim to further accelerate progress and innovation in the combustion of alternative fuels in internal combustion engines.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
