Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The requirements of sustainable and carbon neutral systems and infrastructures need our urgent attention in order to mitigate climate change. The need for advanced and novel technologies is clear in light of the UN sustainability goals. New technologies in energy concepts are continuously developed as we aim to solve the problem of secure and clean energy; at the same time, the environmental impacts of these concepts do not always attract the same level of attention. However, the environmental management of energy technologies and concepts is becoming an international challenge and a priority for the global community. The priority is to save energy, or develop clean energy concepts and foster care for the protection of the natural environment. The solutions sought should be in line with sustainable development, the bioeconomy, the circular economy and material and energy recycling. These matters will be extensively discussed at the Tenth International Conference on Environmental Management, Engineering, Planning and Economics (CEMEPE 2023), and proposals will be made there.

This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate environmental impact assessments related to theoretical assumptions or to the results of scientific and implementation research in the design, modelling and optimization of technological systems in novel energy concepts. Therefore, this Special Issue will focus on current biomass treatment methods and technologies for energy recovery, the state of the art in obtaining biofuel from different sources, including research on pellets, briquettes and tablets, biogas, biohydrogen, biodiesel, bioethanol, biochitan and syngas, the concept of biorefineries, the modeling and optimization of technologies for cleaner energy as well as for techno-economic analysis (TEA) and the life cycle assessment (LCA) of novel energy concepts, in any sector of production.

We invite you to publish original scientific contributions and review papers summarizing the achievements to date in this research field and indicate the strengths and weaknesses of the available technologies. Critical analysis will indicate the necessary directions for further development.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
