Summary

Light is a fundamental environmental factor that has a decisive impact on plant growth, development, and metabolic processes. Plants possess the ability to perceive light signals and use them to regulate their growth and developmental programs, enabling adaptation to changing environmental conditions. Plant photobiology is a scientific discipline focused on understanding how plants detect light and translate these signals into physiological and developmental responses. It covers a broad spectrum of research areas, including photoperiodic regulation, the influence of light quality and intensity on plant growth and morphogenesis, as well as the mechanisms of photosynthesis. This field also investigates the molecular and physiological processes involved in light signal transduction and the adaptive strategies plants employ in response to diverse light environments. The articles included in this Special Issue Reprint collectively address most of these aspects of plant photobiology. They provide new and important insights into the regulation of plant growth and development, as well as the mechanisms underlying plant acclimation to variable light conditions. These contributions strengthen the theoretical basis for future applications aimed at improving agricultural productivity while supporting environmental sustainability.
