The University of Limpopo (UL), through the Ellisras Longitudinal Study Group in the Department of Physiology and Environmental Health, organized and hosted the 3rd Ellisras Longitudinal Study (ELS) and Other Non-Communicable Diseases Studies International Conference (ELSONCDSIC), from22 to 24 November 2022 at the UL and Kitty Village, South Africa. The aim of the 3rd ELSONCDSIC was to provide a unique and inclusive platform for discussion welcoming ordinary members of the Ellisras community, expert scholars, students and experienced professionals from all over the world, thereby offering a diverse and compelling international networking experience. In addition, hard copies of PHASHASHA newsletters were distributed to the community. The content of the PHASHASHA newsletter is rooted in the major findings of the ELS and other NCDs studied across the globe. The practice of relying on indigenous knowledge systems to combat NCDs amongst rural South African populations should be replaced by well-researched models of NCD profiles. The indigenous knowledge system, which plays a significant role in the lives of the rural South African population, was enriched with scientific evidence.
