Critical Issues in Christian Ethics

  This MDPI Reprint of Critical Issues in Christian Ethics is a collection of independent studies with each study focusing on a potentially volatile development in the global community. Like many shifts, events, movements, and currents, these developments appear benign until the cumulative weight of their neglect becomes a traumatizing shock to society. None of the authors in this collection are alarmists, but each one has reflected on a matter that raised enough concern to motivate a soul to think and write. Whether it is a widening divide between theology and ethics (or, in other words, between faith and action), an undermining of the place of religion, carelessness regarding the environment and reckless use of natural resources, despair over finding justice in the world, increasing alienation and anxiety among youth demographics, the rise in nationalistic mentality, intensifying conflict over human sexuality, engagement in the politics of death, devaluation of love, marriage, and life—both born and unborn—and inequities in social place and power, the issue has been addressed by at least one of the scholars on this panel. These scholars write as Christian ethicists. They reflect upon Jesus Christ as a model while exploring the grounds for discerning and defining what is right and wrong. Yet, in these pages, the reader will still find interdisciplinary, cross-denominational, and interfaith approaches to ethical inquiry. This collection is an engagement with issues that move the heart of these scholars, but also has bearing on the future of the planet. Therefore, we invite you to read, reflect, and respond.
