Summary
Chronic respiratory diseases are posing a considerable burden to society, patients, caretakers and medical professionals. In addition to the well-known contributing factors, air pollution and climate change have emerged as new drivers of the increased diagnoses and exacerbations of chronic respiratory conditions. Simultaneously, novel aspects of respiratory pathophysiology are being described, new management modalities are being introduced, and treatment paradigms are being revisited and modified.
This Reprint contains a variety of contributions pertaining to the above-highlighted topics, and covers areas ranging from pulmonary infections and chronic lower airway conditions to clinical situations shared by pneumonologists and allergists, addressing the role of IgE-sensitization in the development of airway inflammation.
