Christology

This Special Issue focuses on “Christology: Christian Writings and the Reflections of Theologians.” The first article provides an overview of the portrait of Christ found in the three Synoptic Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. The second article shows how the Gospel of John relates to the Nicene Creed. The next three articles examine the Christological insights of three prominent Patristic writers: Origen, Cyril of Alexandria, and Maximus the Confessor. The next article is on the Christology of the Church of the East by the eminent Oxford scholar, Sebastian P. Brock. The following two articles explore the Christological reflections of two important medieval theologians: Bonaventure and John Duns Scotus. There is then an article describing the Christological reflections of Joseph Ratzinger/ Pope Benedict XVI. The final four articles focus on special themes and contexts of Christology. There is one on Christology and devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Another is on Latin American Christology. Another provides a pragmatic approach to speaking about Christ in the Muslim-majority context of Pakistan. Finally, there is an article on Christology and the Catholic encounter with world religions. It is hoped that this reprint will provide students of theology with an overview of the Christological insights of some important theologians as well as some special themes of Christology.
