Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Complex networks are prevalent in various dimensions of society, including information technology networks, computer networks, biosphere networks, learning and cognitive networks, social relationship networks, economic and financial networks, supply chains, and critical infrastructure, among others. These networks are often associated with complex systems that (i) are subject to disruptive events, either natural or man-made, that affect their ability to perform their functions and (ii) are constantly changing and evolving, either in response to disruptive events or to adapt to new environments (e.g., varying demands, changing costs, new technologies).

For this Special Issue, we invite high-quality research papers based on applied mathematics, network science, operations research, graph theory, and related fields; novel techniques and approaches to modeling dynamical networks that improve our understanding of how and why networks change over time (including but not limited to changes in their topology or their flows); and how to quantify, control, and enhance (or reduce, depending on the application) their performance and overall resilience. We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as comprehensive review articles on the above topics that will stimulate the continuing efforts to develop this field. Specific topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the keywords below:

  • complex networks;
  • dynamical systems;
  • network science;
  • optimization models;
  • network interdiction;
  • critical infrastructure;
  • supply chain networks;
  • social networks.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
