Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Catalytic pyrolysis of biomass holds great promise as an innovative technology that can convert renewable biomass resources into valuable products such as fuels and chemicals. This process leverages catalysts to enhance pyrolysis reactions, leading to increased yields of desired products. Despite its potential, the widespread adoption of this technology faces significant challenges in catalyst development, feedstock variability, process scalability, and environmental impact, which may hinder its commercial viability.

On the other hand, catalytic pyrolysis offers remarkable opportunities for fostering a diversified bio-based economy. By producing value-added products, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, enhancing energy security, and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, this technology addresses pressing environmental concerns, while also tackling waste disposal challenges.

This Special Issue aims to highlight methodological research works centered around the role of challenges and opportunities in catalytic pyrolysis of biomass as a viable and renewable technology for a greener and more sustainable future. The articles within this Special Issue will cover all possible aspects related with the catalytic pyrolysis of biomass, including technology advancements, lifecycle assessments, policy implications, economic considerations, and social impacts. By delving into these aspects, this collection of research will contribute to our understanding of the potential of catalytic pyrolysis and its role in shaping a more sustainable world.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Biomass is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
