Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The need for an increasingly pollutant-free society is a reality. Transportation based on fossil fuels is one of the most polluting sectors globally. The visible increase in electric vehicles in our cities is one of the solutions adopted to reduce CO2 emissions and pollution in general. Currently, one of the best performing battery technologies that provide electric propulsion for these vehicles is lithium-based technology. There are several electrochemical combinations that use lithium as the main element in charge and discharge reactions, and each of them has its particularities that must be considered, especially when fast charging is required to shorten battery recharge times.

With the same objective of reducing pollutants, increasing renewable energies are being integrated into our electrical systems. Lithium-ion batteries once again appear to be a key element in the viability and reliability of this integration.

In any field where it is necessary to reduce the charging time of a lithium-ion battery, it is very important perform a reduction without producing a degradation of the battery that will shorten its service life.

Therefore, this Special Issue focuses on those advances related to fast charging operation of lithium-ion batteries, which involves many areas of expertise.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Fast charging methods;
  • Battery testing;
  • Battery Management Systems (BMS);
  • Power converters for fast charging;
  • Battery modeling;
  • Thermal management;
  • Safety and reliability.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Batteries is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
