Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

1.      Please, don’t repeat into the conclusions section what you have done, that’s not a conclusion. Try to focus on what you have developed can be useful compared to what there is in the industry or state of the art. The future trends part is fine.

2.      Section 6 (Main Commercial Solution and Comparison) is important, but too extensive. Table 1 and Table 2 are perfect so maybe you can shorten the section a bit.

3.      Can you explain a bit more Figure 7?

Reviewer 2 Report

Abstract: It may be helpful to include a sentence or two about why bi-directional EVs are important and what challenges they address. Please ensure that the technical terms given in the abstract are defined or briefly explained for readers who may not be experts in the field.

Section 1: It will be a good idea to make the comparison more explicit by using a table or bullet points to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of off-board and on-board charging systems. It will also be better to mention statistics based on the availability of public charging stations, the growth of home charging installations, or the adoption of specific connector types. References are also needed for some informative sentences in this section.

Section 2.1 and 2.2: The explanation of power levels (Level 1, Level 2, Level 3) may be convenient, but it might be helpful to provide a brief explanation of the charging times. Please ensure that you properly cite the sources for the information you've presented, especially when referring to specific connector types, power levels, or standards. Figure 2’s caption is missing, also this figure is a table, so it be converted to a table instead. Figure 2 and Figure 3 are not referred to within the text.

Section 2.3: The explanation of passive and active rectifiers is informative. Consider providing a brief comparison or summary of their advantages and disadvantages for clarity. It could benefit from a sentence or two explaining the DC/DC converter’s critical role in managing electrical energy for efficient charging. The part related to EMI filters is a bit complicated to follow up on. Citation is also necessary for some sentences and Figure 5 is not referred to within the text.

Section 2.4: It will be a good idea to provide a discussion of how the cost difference between WBG and traditional silicon devices can impact the electrical car industry and renewable energy generation. Additionally, it was mentioned that Sic and GaN devices are gaining ground in various applications, it might be better to give more detail about the specific applications and industries by discussing their potential future markets. Please make sure all information are referred to.

Section 3.4: Figure 11 is not referred to within the text. Please give some discussion about how the challenges, such as control circuit complexity and high-speed switching devices are typically addressed or mitigated in practical implementations.

Section 4: It might be a good idea to provide the strengths and weaknesses of each type of DC-DC converter. Also, missing captions in Figure 13 and Figure 14.

Section 5: Please explain why galvanic isolation is crucial for safety and reliability in automotive applications

Dear Authors,

Greetings! Hereby find my review comments on the article titled 'Overview on Battery Charging Systems for Electric Vehicles'.

* Abstract is very clearly written and crispy. If possible  also would like to suggest them to add some numerical comparisons.

* Try to avoid more lumping of references. Its good to address or minimize lumping of references.

* Novelty of this review can be  discussed in the introduction section.

*Trend in Switching Components Technology discussion looks so good

* Check the figures 13 &14 caption

* Quality of 14 and 13 figures can be improved.

* Future trends clearly discussed. Overall the article looks nice.
