
Environment & Earth Sciences Competiton
MDPI Books is delighted to announce a new publishing initiative supporting researchers working within the Environment & Earth Sciences (EES). Through this competition, selected book proposals will receive full editorial support and a complete waiver of Book Processing Charges (BPC), enabling open access publication at no cost to the author(s).
Environmental and Earth Sciences research is critical to addressing pressing global challenges, yet book-length publishing opportunities in open access remain limited. This competition enables scholars to publish impactful research that reaches researchers, policymakers, and practitioners worldwide.

What selected proposals will receive
- Full waiver of Book Processing Charges (worth up to CHF 12,000).
- Complete editorial and production support including peer review, copyediting, typesetting, and layout.
- Global visibility and indexing via MDPI Books’ Open Access platform.
- Promotion and outreach, leveraging MDPI’s multi-channel marketing and press networks.
Who can apply and what proposals are eligible?
- All researchers working within the Environmental and Earth Sciences.
- All career stages, geographic locations, and institutional affiliations welcome.
- Proposals can be submitted by individuals or teams of authors.
- Monographs and Edited volumes with a clear and coherent concept are eligible. PhDs and extended PhDs are not eligible for submission. If you would like to publish your PhD, please contact us at bksubmission@mdpi.com.
- Original, unpublished work intended for open access publication under CC BY license.
- Proposed books of approximately 30,000 to 90,000 words. This should equate to a resulting manuscript of around 100 - 250 pages.
- Research that will successfully complete peer review.
- Proposals must be submitted to the application form by 14 December 2025.
Proposal Requirements
To be considered for evaluation, proposals must include:
- Complete Author/Editor Information
Provide full names, affiliations, and contact details for all authors and/or editors. - Suggested Peer Reviewers
In line with MDPI’s reviewer policy, each suggested reviewer must: - Not belong to the same affiliation as any of the author(s);
- Not have published with any author(s) within the past five years;
- Have at least three topic-relevant publications within the last five years.
- Detailed Chapter Outline and Contributor List
All proposals must include:- Tentative chapter titles and short abstracts or summaries for each chapter.
- A comprehensive list of planned chapter contributors with affiliations.
- Whether potential authors have been contacted or confirmed.
- A brief explanation of efforts to ensure diversity among contributors (e.g., geographic, disciplinary, methodological, gender, or career stage)
Evaluation Process and Next Steps
The submission window is open from 16 October to 14 December 2025 via our application form. After the submission period closes evaluation by our internal editorial team, in consultation with external reviewers with relevant subject expertise. Proposals are evaluated based on:
- Scholarly merit and originality
- Potential impact and contribution to the field
- Clarity, structure, and feasibility of the proposed content
- Fit with MDPI Books’ publishing scope and standards
- Quality and diversity of contributors (for edited volumes)
Successful proposals will be announced in early 2026, after the evaluation has been completed.
