Summary

Pulmonary embolism is a frequently encountered clinical problem evaluated by a wide array of clinicians and can present with an equally large spectrum from asymptomatic to life-threatening. Though often diagnosed in the acute setting, most patients with pulmonary embolism require long-term management. The goal of this Special Issue is to offer evidenced-based reviews of the diagnosis, evaluation, risk stratification, and acute management of pulmonary embolisms, along with an evaluation of the potential longer term clinical sequalae. The issue highlights the basics of evaluation in addition to some of the more nuanced decision-making required for appropriate management of pulmonary embolisms. There remains much to learn about pulmonary embolisms, and this issue also offers new evidence to help guide the growing field of pulmonary embolism management.
