World Diabetes Congress Melbourne
The World Diabetes Congress is one of the world’s largest health-related congresses and the only truly global meeting in diabetes, bringing together over 15,000 delegates, more than 400 high-level speakers, over 80 international exhibitors and representatives from over 200 diabetes member associations from more than 160 countries.
Attendees of IDF Congresses come from very diverse backgrounds: research scientists, physicians and other health care professionals (nurses, general practitioners, dieticians, diabetes educators...), non-profit organizations and health policy makers.
The World Diabetes Congress 2013 in Melbourne, Australia offers opportunities to both commercial and non-commercial organizations to showcase their products and services to the largest global gathering of diabetes healthcare professionals in the world. With over 4,000 square metres of prime exhibition space, organisations can effectively reach the international diabetes community in the global response to Diabetes.
After almost two decades, the World Diabetes Congress is returning to the Western Pacific, the region that has the largest percentage of undiagnosed cases and the highest number of deaths attributable to diabetes, with 1.7 million deaths among adults or over 15% of all deaths in 2011. In Australia, it is estimated that 8 per cent of the population is living with diabetes. This is forecast to increase to 14% over the next twenty years. A big problem is manifesting itself in Australia’s Indigenous population where 30% of people are thought to have diabetes. This is why, twenty years after the 1994 congress in Kobe Japan, the World Diabetes Congress is returning to the region, and will be held in Melbourne, Australia from 2 to 6 December 2013.
Melbourne’s location makes the Congress accessible to delegates from China and India, two countries where large portions of the population have diabetes. Melbourne’s infrastructure makes it possible for delegates to find accommodation and travel around at reasonable prices.
