The role of interior design in enhancing happiness and comfort at educational institutions in Saudi Arabia: A case study of Girls College and Arts, King Khalid University

This is an interesting case study of interior design satisfaction within a college educational work setting. The manuscript needs a thorough English usage edit throughout. There are missing details within the methods and the discussion sections of the manuscript. Detailed comments follow.

Abstract needs to be shortened but methods need to be expanded a bit.

Introduction

The author needs to justify why they used happiness versus satisfaction.

Line 72: suggest – efficient…

Lines 107-8: suggest- can be achieved…

Lines 111-112: suggest – discussed below- delete “as”

Line 143: suggest- Other than lighting…

Line 156: suggest- manner that natural…

Materials and Methods

Why not survey students?

Line 183; suggest- also proposes solutions…

Line 195: Just how were survey subjects randomly selected?

Line 197: if the survey was administered three different ways- email, social media, and face to face- author needs to explain how each mode was administered and how the data quality was maintained throughout the process of survey gathering to analysis

Line 199: does the author really mean gathering opinions and perceptions? I think only perceptions?

Line 213: how were outliers determined?

Results and Discussions

Lines 234-235: the results are not absolute- this is a slight majority- 54% is not all the respondents!

Line 255: suggest using the terminology of a major factor- your semi-qualitative survey does not support causality.

Line 308: Author cannot assume ergonomic related injuries unless substantiated some way.

Line 397: does not necessarily mean high quality versus acceptance of what exists

Missing items

Author needs some discussion of data quality control -especially with three modes of survey plus implications for validity and reliability of the survey results.

Author needs to discuss results as they may relate to any other similar studies.

Summary and Recommendations

Is the study results or method appropriate for other educational or work settings or geographic or cultural contexts?

What are the study limitations?

What future research might stem from study results or limitations?

Reviewer 2 Report

The subject matter covered in this article has already been extensively researched, and a number of studies have been conducted to study the possible connections between user happiness and perceived levels of happiness in interior design. The discussion does not fully comprehend with the literature standpoint that was provided, despite the fact that the study is intriguing because it adopts various empirical reference points and analyzes the interior environment of the university.

It is exciting to observe how interior design concepts are put into practice and to gain an understanding of the aspects that can have a beneficial impact on the users' capacity to focus on their workspaces. Due to the fact that the questionnaire covers a multitude of different topics, more research on the data that was collected may be utilized in order to arrive at better compared recommendations that are supported by more convincing justifications.

The use of statistical analysis is mentioned in the methodology section, but it is not followed up on or explored in depth in the discussion section. Instead, the author uses an average of the responses to defend the findings. It would be helpful to employ other reliable and appropriate statistical methods in order to reinforce the findings and suggestions, despite the fact that the overall responses bring attention to a number of significant issues. The findings of this research are not applicable to a more general readership unless the analyses are validated.

It is also recommended that the material be proofread carefully to prevent any recurring errors.

Reviewer 2 Report

The language is proofread and is fine in this revised version.

In the cover letter, the author does not address and respond to the points mentioned in the review one by one correspondingly. The updates (highlighted in red) at the conclusion section gives more details as a conclusion of the interior design criteria. However, there are still a number of points that appear in the review are not addressed. Overall, there is no significant update based on the major revision comments / suggestions.

Round 3

Reviewer 1 Report

Author has now adequately responded to reviewer's comments.

Reviewer 2 Report

After the revision, the content is much better and more refined and could be considered for publication.

It can be suggested to deeply analyze or look more closely at the key aspects that emerge from this study (sense of space and application of biophilic design solutions in the interior spaces) for future follow-up publication. Descriptive statistical analysis is a fundamental way to present data findings. Further than that, the author may refer to other articles to extend the analysis leading to other meaningful conclusion.
