The paper presents an up-to-date review of research and application studies of capacitive power transfer systems. CPTs have a number of industrial applications and therefore, constitute a worthy point of investigation. A lot of new research has been done in the domain in recent years. As a result, a comprehensive reference analysis coupled with review of the merit and key advancements in the area represents a worthy effort. As a result of fast development of industrial applications, CPTs have contributed to substantial improvements in transfer distances and efficiency. The authors present the key theoretical underpinnings of CPTs along with their fundamental working principles. Then, they summarize the principal theoretical studies covering the methodological framework, which further serves to elucidate the discussion over the studies focused on advanced applications. The later are systematized into six key directions. Among others, the authors discuss applications of CPT in several domains including medical fixtures. Overall, the paper serves as a comprehensive reference on the topic of theoretical research and advanced applications of CPT. In this capacity, it fully fulfills the intentions of the authors. The structure of the paper is clear and straightforward. The reference list of comprehensive and up-to-date. The quality of graphic materials used in the paper is adequate. The quality of communication in the paper is adequate.

With the rapid development of semiconductor switching devices and power electronic control technology, wireless power transfer technology has become more efficient, safer and reliable and will become the mainstream direction in power supply. The CPT technology has also achieved tremendous development. In contrast, some research should be carried out further: 1. Design and optimization of switching devices under high power requirements. Compared with the IPT system, the CPT system requires a higher switching frequency. The efficiency and thermal stability of the device are the essential research directions; 2. The design and optimization of the coupler are suitable for complex environments. The capacitance generated between the metal plates of the CPT coupler realizes the energy transfer. In contrast, the external conductor is very easy to create additional parasitic capacitance with the coupler, affecting the system characteristics. Therefore, how to shield, reduce or transform the influence of the external environment on the coupling mechanism is very critical. 3. Efficient and stable compensation network topology. Although the IPT system has a mature compensation network analysis, it cannot be directly applied to the CPT system due to the unique working characteristics of the CPT system. It is necessary to carry out a complete compensation network analysis based on the CPT system's system transfer characteristics, electrical safety, and system stability. 4. System efficiency improvement. At present, the efficiency research of CPT is mainly focused on the analysis and optimization of compensation topology parameters. At the same time, the system coupler, converter circuit and overall optimization have not been considered. Although the research of the CPT system at present is still in the preliminary stage, it will be the focus of more research teams due to its advantages in specific applications and indeed promote the broader application of the CPT system.

 

In this regard, the paper is well written and well arranged.

The quality of some figures is poor, especially those in tables.

References of some resources are needed.

Software dealing with the topic should be discussed.

The methodology of the chosen references should be added as it is a state-of-the-art review paper.
