Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this manuscript, three new structures for PRIME 1.3.6, PRIME 1.4, and G3-PLC are proposed to improve the performance of the physical layer and the performance of the proposed methods is analyzed using Virtual PLC Lab. The manuscript is well organized and the results are new and interesting.

The title of this manuscript has ‘optimization proposals’, but optimization requires criteria. Also, if it is optimized, there shouldn’t be a better structure, but it is not considered so. Therefore, instead of ‘optimization proposals’, ‘improvement proposals’ is considered more appropriate.

In the content of subsequent texts, 'optimization' needs to be changed into 'improvement'.

Is Virtual Lab a tool developed in software? It would be good to have a simple explanation in one or two lines.

The names, Virtual PLC Lab and Virtual PLC lab (lines 52 and 53), are used together. It is necessary to change them to one name.

Using a concatenated code with Reed-Solomon and convolutional code in the PRIME physical layer is proposed in this manuscript. Recently, more powerful forward error correction codes such as turbo codes have been developed. Such codes would certainly provide better error rate performance. What do the authors think about applying these codes to PRIME or G3-PLC to improve the performance of the physical layer?

In line 219, what is the meaning for P1901.2 [B]?

The last paragraph on page 16 discusses issues related to out-band Quasi-Peak emission. In this regard, in Figure 5, it is observed that the power density less than 30 kHz increases when Tone Map is 010000, which will increase more when Tone Map is 100000. Does this not cause a problem against emission regulations?

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript is timely and well written. However,Please find below my comments to enhance it further.

Abstract is too lengthy. Make it brief and concise.

Please discuss and cite this related article that comprehensively discussed AMI. "Internet of Things (IoT): Operating System, Applications and Protocols Design, and Validation Techniques ," Future Generation Computer Systems, vol.88, pp. 699-706, August 2018."

Add Related Work Section and discuss all the related papers.

Add comparative table of related work by highlighting aim, proposed scheme, pros and cons.

Add detail simulation parameters in tabular form.

Add future work.
