- A new constitutive model for the discontinuous yielding in metallic glasses was proposed. It includes the local flow defect concentration within the arrested shear bands as a time dependent state variable. The simulated model showed an agreement with the experimental data for the serrated flow behavior in BMGs as well as the main related features, i.e., strain rate effect.
- Despite the essential difference between deformation in crystalline and amorphous metals, the above model based on the comparison of deformation in BMGs and the DSA mechanism suggests that the phenomenological similarities found for both classes of metals may stem from a similar micromechanical origin.
