Information in Layers†
AbstractThis paper examines different uses of ideas of layers in philosophical and semiotic thinking and compares these ideas with the use of layers by engineers, especially for the design and analysis of communication systems. It looks at how some authors have drawn on layered thinking to discuss the information, and attempt to draw out some new insights into the nature of information.
