Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

I really liked this study, which I found to be well-conceived and seemingly well-executed. It really enabled the reader to think about how the use of trees on small farms in the study region varies by factors such as elevation, ethnicity of the farmers, gender, distance from a major road, etc., all of which seem very relevant.

I do not see the need for substantial revisions, but the text would benefit from a relatively light editing (i.e., moderate English grammar revisions). The only revision to the text I would recommend is to provide just a bit more detail on study site selection. Were the individual communities and households selected randomly from a larger list of each?

One thing I question is the title, which is pretty long and perhaps a bit misleading. This paper is about the survey work that was done, and only touches in passing on the online tool mentioned in the title. Maybe the mention of the tool could be removed from the title.

Dear Authors,

Great job on your study! It is very thorough, and you did an excellent job of assessing the current status and agroforestry potential of the region. I think the manuscript is almost ready for publication. I would recommend a thorough edit by the authors (or an outside editor) for perhaps 1-2 hours, as there are a few minor grammatical errors. In addition, please place all genus/species names in italics, and do not put 'spp.' in italics.

Overall, great work, and hopefully will be of benefit to landowners, policymakers and those who use the online tool.

Sincerely
