Does the introduction provide sufficient background and include all relevant references?
Is the research design appropriate?
Are the methods adequately described?
Are the results clearly presented?
Are the conclusions supported by the results?

Reviewer 2 Report

Congratulations to the authors of the paper on the interesting research in a not yet fully recognized area. Nevertheless, the paper in its current form is a little chaotic and not coherent enough. In my opinion, the authors touched too many various threads.

I have a few recommendations which could improve the quality of the paper:

I suggest to divide the paper into 6 sections: Introduction, Literature Review, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions and not to separate other subtitles. This requires re-editing all the content of the paper.

I suggest that you could focus on and develop the issues that are most relevant to the topic of the paper:

1) In the Literature Review section:

  •  I suggest a more extensive reference to the concept of sustainable development. In terms of globalization and its negative impact on indigenous societies, I propose to refer to economic literature. In the paper, this issue has been strongly reduced and treated stereotypically
  • I suggest ordering and developing the theoretical approach to indigenous societies, indigenous knowledge, appropriate technologies, and system dynamics modelling.

2) Then it would be good to set a structured Materials and Methods section including a detailed, ordered description of the used methodology and tools.

3) After the Results section, I suggest adding a Discussion section and complete (develop) the Conclusions - explaining in more detail the conditions needed for the use of system dynamics modelling in the case.

Moreover, I suggest clarifying the purpose of the paper both in the Abstract section and in the Introduction.

In my opinion, Figures 1 and 2 are unnecessary in the paper, the description of the Ghana case is enough.

Please correct in the text the table number on page 6, there should be Table 1.

Good luck with revising your manuscript!

Done in start of Lit review - until history of technology

  • I suggest ordering and developing the theoretical approach to indigenous societies, indigenous knowledge, appropriate technologies, and system dynamics modelling.

Reordered and shortened. The modelling material remains under the Materials and Methods section as this is the implementation of the concerns raised in the literature review

2) Then it would be good to set a structured Materials and Methods section including a detailed, ordered description of the used methodology and tools.

Done and much clearer now with this structure

3) After the Results section, I suggest adding a Discussion section and complete (develop) the Conclusions - explaining in more detail the conditions needed for the use of system dynamics modelling in the case.

The discussion section was added and some of the conclusions fit there. The conclusion was made more succinct

Moreover, I suggest clarifying the purpose of the paper both in the Abstract section and in the Introduction.

Done. The purpose is to model novel community development and provide this as feedback to the community on how their development may progress

In my opinion, Figures 1 and 2 are unnecessary in the paper, the description of the Ghana case is enough.

Reviewer 3 Report

The study is very interesting in terms of the development of a well-sustained society by balancing industrial and environmental aspects.

The structure of the paper is logically established and the consistency of the argument is clear. However, the literature review is very minimal and should be developed. The abstract should be clarified.

Author Response

the literature review is very minimal and should be developed. The abstract should be clarified.

Abstract rewritten with goal of working with communities to establish their priorities and limitations to be included in the modelling of the system. this model can then guide future planning

Literature developed with more on economic development and indigenous attributes that affect community infrastructure and governance
