Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue is dedicated to exploring cutting-edge sustainable technologies and methodologies for the remediation of heavy metals in soils and wastewater. The contamination of natural resources by heavy metals is a pressing environmental issue that poses significant health risks to humans and ecosystems. Traditional methods of remediation often involve complex, costly, and sometimes environmentally harmful processes. In contrast, this Special Issue focuses on innovative, eco-friendly, and efficient approaches for the removal of heavy metals.

Through a collection of research articles, reviews, and case studies, this Special Issue aims to highlight advancements in sustainable remediation technologies, understanding their mechanisms, scalability, and application in real-world scenarios. We welcome contributions that demonstrate novel techniques, optimized processes, and integrated approaches, encompassing the fields of environmental engineering, chemistry, biotechnology, and material science.

Suitable topics of interest for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Focus on strategies and technologies specifically targeting the removal of heavy metals from soil and water environments;
  • Emphasis on eco-friendly, cost-effective, and sustainable approaches;
  • Techniques and methodologies for the extraction and neutralization of heavy metals in soils;
  • Innovative approaches for treating industrial and municipal wastewater contaminated with heavy metals;
  • Use of biological organisms such as bacteria, fungi, or plants in the removal of heavy metals;
  • Specific focus on plant-based remediation techniques;
  • Development and optimization of adsorbent materials for heavy metal capture;

Discussion of the environmental impact and sustainability aspects of remediation technologies.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
