Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The chemical–physical properties of materials are extensively studied because of their applications in several fields, ranging from medicine and sensing to energy harvesting and energy conversion. Today, given the demand for high environmental and energy sustainability and for the use of materials that are increasingly less toxic and increasingly biodegradable, research focuses heavily on sustainable materials to substitute and recycle of critical raw materials (CRMs). A lot of studies concern the processing of bio-organic materials, 2D sustainable materials, environmentally friendly organic and inorganic sources of materials, synthetic green chemistry—to name a few topics. These kinds of materials allow for the development of new technologies, and so characterization techniques investigating several properties of these materials, such as electrical, thermal, optical, and mechanical properties, are of considerable importance to facilitate their use for specific applications.

The aim of this Special Issue is to provide a global view on sustainable materials furnishing information on the state of the art and current research. In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Mechanisms and/or concept, regarding the fabrication and chemical-physical properties, also describing their potential impacts;
  • Recent advances in the synthesis and characterization of sustainable materials;
  • Application of these materials: energy harvesting/conversion, sensors, optoelectronic devices, biomedicine.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
