Business growth is considered as one of the main topics of entrepreneurship research. Due to the increased interest on entrepreneurship, new theoretical perspectives have emerged to explain entrepreneurial behavior. One of these emergent theories is effectuation. It is widely known that entrepreneurs and owner-managers count on different decision-making logics during the internationalization of their ventures, including causal and effectual reasoning. Despite that the use of effectual reasoning has been generally linked to the early stages of the creation of a venture; it has recently been introduced to on the internationalization of SMEs research. Introduced by Sarasvathy (2001), effectuation logic is stated to grow in an unstable operating context where it is complicated to predict and in contrast, it is likely to unexpectedly respond to changes in the environment. Furthermore, it represents a typical shift in approaching entrepreneurship. In this theoretical paper, we first aim to highlight the evolution of the concept and the development of the effectuation theory within the literature. Furthermore, we explain the similarities and differences existing between causation and effectuation reasoning. Finally, we use the lens of effectuation to come up with an understanding of the internationalization of SMEs. Full article

In a situation where only one in three companies in the world is founded and run by women, there is a need to look for determinants, as well as for ways of solving specific problems. The aim of the article is to define the characteristics of female entrepreneurship and its role in creating and developing enterprises, in juxtaposition with male entrepreneurship. The article presents the results of the authors’ own research on selected problems of female entrepreneurship in Poland. They are based on surveys conducted among 200 people: female and male university students and identify the main problems of female entrepreneurship. Full article

The dynamic economic development supported by progressive globalisation can be observed in every EU country. It would, therefore, seem that financial market instruments are not only known to, but also used by, the managers of SME’s (99% of all Polish businesses). It would seem that SME should all the more penetrate the financial market in search of thus far unseized subsidising opportunities. The article presents the results of the author’s own research concerning the respondents’ perception of capital market instruments, and defines the potential of companies with a legal status which enables them to establish cooperation with the key capital market institution in Poland (based on the responses of 400 persons representing various branches of entrepreneurship in the Wielkopolska region). previously developed model for assessing the commercial potential of technologies is universal—dedicated for assessment technologies in all manufacturing branches. However, in the course of research has been established, that specifics of different technology manufacturing branches (DTMB) are important for assessing the commercial potential. Historically, several technology manufacturing branches had already positive results in Lithuania, they cover the most promising part of the national economy and are in line with EU priorities. For these reasons a decision was taken to customize the model for assessing the commercial potential of technologies to biotechnology, mechatronics, laser technology, information technology, nano electronics. The article presents development a sets of factors for assessment commercial potential for different technology manufacturing branches based on multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) methods. Afterwards sets of factors will be used as the research tool for determination meanings of factors values and the significance of factors for every manufacturing branche. Full article
