Comments and Suggestions for Authors

I have conducted a thorough review of your manuscript, and it appears that certain corrections are necessary to enhance its overall quality. Please consider the following recommendations:

1.        The title information is not enough to fully reflect the research content of this paper.

2.        More specific results are urged to add in Abstract for the novelty of this research, as well as the Keyword.

3.        Clarify the explanation of Study area. To achieve a more lucid presentation.

4.        The Introduction (Lines 28-85) does not introduce the current state-of-the-art adequately. The state of the art in an article of this style must be more in-depth, not only citing similar researches but also detailing the differences between them. More literatures should be included in the introduction part to help readers understand the latest research progress.

5.        More research background and comparison are required e.g. J C Kapil, Sakshi Sharma, Karmjeet Singh, J S Shahi & Rama Arora (2023) Acoustic emission monitoring and analyses for avalanche release and slab fracturing events observed in Great Himalaya.

6.        Provide a detailed account of how the Methods were adapted based on the problem conditions.

7.        Line 541-542 is wrong.

8.        There are English presentation issues; careful revision is recommended.

9.        Conduct an in-depth analysis of the developed methods in Discussion.

Review Report for the manuscript:  Insights into Stable Landslide Dams on the Eastern Margin of the Tibetan Plateau, China: Spatial Distribution and Stabilization Mechanism

I would like to thank authors very much for their efforts in this research. There are some few notes to improve and clarify the work.

The reference citation system inside the text need to change to MDPI system.  (Li et al., 30 2015 , Zhan et al., 2018). In Page 1 line 30.

Introduction section need to more analysis of international literature, as well as techniques intended to apply.

In Introduction section, a detailed map for dams is required.

Figure 1. The regional geological background of the study area?

Where is the study area? Location map?

Please, use one system (Fig. 1, or Figure 1.)

In the text, the author uses era system (Precambrian, Palaeozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic sediments) (Page 3 line 113) while in the Figure 2. Geological map the system is different?? Please change the map to era system.

Author says:  Figure 3. The water system and geomorphic features of the study area. A –water system features, B 146 –geomorphic features.??

While this map does not show any geomorphic units (only elevations)???

Figure 4. missed scale bar, north arrow, coordinates, and time of data.

Figure 6.  sourse of data in 6A, 6B, 6c

What is source of equations ؟

Conculsion still need to more work !

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The title of the article is too long and it should not contain names. I would suggest to shorten it to: "Spatial Distribution and Stabilization Mechanism of the Stable Landslide Dams".

In the Abstract: row 15: modify "km2 "and "four" instead of "4"

row 90: "three" instead of 3

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The manuscript submitted for review meets the profile of the journal. The structure is clear, graphically the material meets the requirements. This manuscript has practical significance. I recommend adding to the list of references not only national works, but also works from other countries. This work can be published after minor literary editing.

Review for:

Insights into stable landslide dams on the eastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau, China: Spatial distribution and stabilization mechanism

With some revisions to enhance the clarity of the paper, a more comprehensive literature review, and a more detailed discussion of limitations and future directions, this paper has the potential to make a significant contribution to the field of thermal applications. Acceptance of the manuscript would depend on the revision. The author needs to provide a point-by-point response or provide a rebuttal.

1-     Title: It is too long. Please, revise it.

2-     Abstract and conclusion:

-        The abstract and conclusion should be detailed by adding more quantitative results and percentages of improvement, reduction …etc.

-        Give more details in the conclusion section. I find it lacking in information.

3-     Introduction. It is well-written. However:

-        I suggest author to re-examined it in terms of misspellings.

-        You need to add more references. What you have written is not enough. That is why I cannot figure out what the problem and solution are.

-        In the last paragraph of the introduction, please clearly state the originality and novelty of the paper. It is mandatory.

4-     Please, you must re-structure the introduction and especially integrate references to new publications (2022, 2023,...).

5-     Can you provide more details on the specific criteria used to classify a landslide dam as "stable" in your study?

6-     How did you ensure the accuracy of the identification of stable landslide dams using high-precision remote sensing images?

7-     Could you elaborate on the selection process for the 101 stable landslide dams identified in the study? Were there any specific inclusion or exclusion criteria?

8-     How did you validate the accuracy of the mapping and classification of stable landslide dams, particularly in such a vast area?

9-     Did you encounter any challenges or limitations in using the Google Earth Engine and remote sensing images for your analysis? How did you address them?

10- What were the most significant findings regarding the morphological parameters of the identified stable landslide dams?

11- Can you discuss any trends or patterns observed in the relationships between dam height, dam width, dam volume, and catchment area?

12- Could you elaborate on the factors contributing to the source areas of landslide dams being primarily located in the upper-middle and upper sections of the adjacent mountains?

13- Were there any unexpected findings or variations in the distribution of source areas among the different types of stable landslide dams?

14- You mentioned that stability is mainly controlled by the structure of the landslide dam and the relationship between dam volume and catchment area. Could you provide more insights into how these factors influence stability?

15- Were there any additional factors identified during your field investigations that may influence the stability of stable landslide dams?

16- How do you envision the findings of your study contributing to our understanding of regional geomorphological evolution and hazard assessment in the context of the Tibetan Plateau?

17- What are the potential avenues for future research based on the insights gained from this study?

The paper requires revision regarding the above-mentioned comments before being considered for publication in Sustainability Journal.
