Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Cultivated land is the fundamental cornerstone of grain production, an important strategic resource in the world, and the basis for human reproduction, survival, and development. In this paper, the authors searched 413 article related in this field from the CNKI and WOS databases, and conducted a bibliometric analysis using the Citespace software and inductive statistics. The result portrays the trend of annual publications in the field, identifies the most influential authors and institutions, and interprets the current research scales and hotspot areas. Meanwhile, the collaboration networks of key authors and institutions, as well as high-frequency keywords, have been visually presented. At last, the evolution of research hotspots and themes is sorted out, and future research directions in this field are prospected and discussed. This is a good paper to analyze the NGPCL in China, and the paper is well in writing.

My main comment is that, in the CNKI database, I only searched a total of 153 items with the subject of "non-grain production of cultivated land" without any limitations on discipline or publication time, but the authors searched a total of 655 articles. The same problem also occurs in the WOS database. Why? As far as I know, in remote sensing field, abundant work was done related to the change of the land use, which should be a part of the work in this paper. I suggest to use more key words and search strategies to collect more related literatures.

Some minor comments are given as follows.

1. Abbreviations that appear for the first time in the paper should use their full names.

2. Lines 57, 182, and 362: There occurs a clear wrong expression.

3. Section 2.2: The Research method to obtain the important conclusions in this work, but the introduction to the method is rather poor. Please give a detailed description of the method.

4. How to map the Figures 7-9? What is the meaning of the points in the Figures?

5. In Section 4, the authors thoroughly discussed four issues related to NGPCL. Here, they analyzed the problems in the current work and provided the possible solving strategies. Then, what is the reason for the authors paying attention to the four issues? Also, what is the scientific foundations for the authors to provide the solving strategies?

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The manuscript investigated the Progress and prospects of non-grain production of cultivated land in China. This is an interesting research paper, also well written. However, revision is required to address the following:

It is preferable to include a conclusion in the abstract

What is the basis on which the annual number of publications from 2009 to 2023 was classified?

The conclusion is very long, so it is preferable to shorten it as much as possible without disturbing the content

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The manuscript presents literature review results of NGPCL based on Citespace software and inductive statistics and the authors' interpretations of the results. I have some minor comments listed below. I hope the author could perform a thorough grammar check.

Line 13: please explain the short form NGPCL at the first occurrence.

Line 22: “the research hotspots focuses on…” grammar

Line 25: “It should also efforts to …” grammar

line 57, 182, 362 etc: please clean up the error messages.

line 76: “use the measure proportion of income spent on food or food expenditure as a share of total income” grammar.

line 111: 346 instead of 347 based on Figure 1?

Line 131: please provide more details on how the software grasps the contents of literatures.

Figure 2: the colors for germination period and steady growth period are swapped in the legend.

Line 180: maybe add “In figure 3” at the beginning of the sentence. Please add legend or caption for the node size and line thickness in figure 3.

Line 182: what value is used to measure the strength of cooperative relationships?

Line 205: “they both” grammar

In section 3.2.1.2, there seems to be a subsection title at the beginning of each paragraph in line 297, 313, and 336. Maybe highlight them or make them a subsection to make it easy to read
