Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Tsunami hazard is a rare phenomenon with a potentially very high impact on people and property. Considerable effort has been devoted to research on tsunami in various fields of science. The fundamental parts of many studies stem from comprehending the essential characteristics of tsunami or tsunami hazard, building or establishing sufficiently comprehensive models, and simulating the possible impacts under defined scenarios. The literature on tsunami presents a wide spectrum of models and simulation engines that enable the study of different aspects of tsunami, tsunami hazard, and preventive or mitigating actions. This Special Issue is open to a broad range of studies discussing modelling and simulation from all perspectives. These can be aligned along the family of numerical models based on hydrodynamic equations such as non-linear shallow water models, Boussinesq equations, or Navier–Stokes equations and corresponding simulation packages or visualization frameworks; behavioral agent-based models simulating evacuation procedures and emergency response actions; data models used to store data from complex sensory networks and subsequently machine learning models designed to identify nontrivial patterns in tsunami characteristics; economic models enumerating financial damages and reconstruction efforts; urban planning models instigating tsunami-aware and sustainable resettlement; or similar topics related to modelling and simulation.

The Special Issue aims to publish research papers dealing with original findings or novel approaches to the modelling and simulation of any aspect of tsunami as a complex system integrating research ranging from hard technical disciplines to soft fields of study.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Systems is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
