Material selection in architectural design necessitates a multifaceted evaluation of economic, technical, esthetic, and cultural variables. Beyond fundamental requirements such as cost, structural integrity, and transparency, architects must synthesize subjective attributes, including warmth and formality, with objective constraints like multifunctionality and cultural heritage. Despite the strategic impact of material choice on project performance, empirical research systematically categorizing these governing criteria remains sparse. Furthermore, existing methodologies often overlook the psychophysical principles of human perception essential for construction material evaluation. Thus, this study identifies the fundamental factors influencing material selection and establishes a hierarchical framework to prioritize their relative significance within the design process. The research employs a weighted Analytic Hierarchy Process integrated with the Weber–Fechner law (W-AHP) to structure and quantify selection criteria. By incorporating perceptual scaling principles into the AHP framework, the methodology accounts for variations in judgment sensitivity across different evaluation scales. A hierarchical decision model was developed to categorize criteria and sub-criteria, followed by pairwise comparisons to derive priority weights. Results reveal a distinct priority hierarchy among the identified criteria and confirm that judgment sensitivity varies significantly across evaluation scales. The W-AHP method produced differentiated weightings that accurately reflect the psychological intensity of professional decision-making, offering a structured mechanism to balance functional performance with complex design intentions. This study contributes to the field of construction management by introducing the W-AHP method as a novel decision-support tool. The integration of Weber–Fechner perceptual principles enhances weight differentiation and addresses the inherent subjectivity of architectural evaluation, providing a transparent methodology to justify material procurement within a rigorous engineering management context. The transition towards sustainable urban mobility requires planning approaches that integrate accessibility, social inclusion, environmental quality, and stakeholder preferences, particularly in medium-sized cities, where mobility challenges differ from those of large metropolitan areas. However, comparative evidence on how different stakeholder groups prioritize sustainable mobility strategies in such cities remains limited. This paper addresses this gap by applying a comparative Multi-Actor Multi-Criteria Analysis (MAMCA) to two medium-sized European cities: Cáceres, Spain, and Coimbra, Portugal. The analysis involved five stakeholder groups (citizens, entrepreneurs, public institutions, mobility operators, and academics) and used a common framework comprising five objectives, fifteen sub-objectives, and eight strategic alternatives for each city. The results show that both cities share strong priorities related to accessibility for vulnerable groups, safety, environmental quality, and public space. However, their preferred strategic pathways differ. In Coimbra, the highest support is associated with pedestrian infrastructure, public space improvements, and integrated spatial planning, whereas in Cáceres, the leading priorities are public transport connectivity, territorial integration, and accessibility for vulnerable groups. The study confirms the usefulness of MAMCA as a transferable decision-support framework for incorporating stakeholder preferences into sustainable mobility planning. Full article

Digital transformation in higher education has increasingly shifted from a technology-centered agenda toward a multidimensional institutional process involving governance, quality assurance, process redesign, and data-driven decision-making. This study proposes and operationalizes an analytical framework for examining digital transformation in universities through an interactive Human–Machine Interface developed in Python. The framework is structured around three complementary methodological cores: ontology-based modeling, statistical reliability analysis, and multiobjective optimization. The ontology module organizes the semantic structure of digital transformation dimensions, revealing their relational hierarchy and structural relevance. The statistical module evaluates internal consistency and distributional behavior through Cronbach’s alpha, corrected item–total correlation, and density-based inspection. The optimization module formulates intervention selection as a constrained multiobjective problem, allowing the identification of efficient portfolios under cost, readiness gain, equity, and feasibility criteria. The analytical environment also incorporates interactive dashboards, VOSviewer-style relational exploration, and exportable high-resolution figures. Results show that digital transformation readiness is heterogeneous across groups, that governance-oriented dimensions occupy a central semantic role, and that institutional intervention planning benefits from Pareto-efficient decision support rather than single-criterion ranking. The study contributes a coherent bridge between conceptual models of digital transformation and an operational analytical environment capable of supporting institutional diagnosis, evidence-based prioritization, and strategic planning in regulated higher education settings. Global crises often force a pivotal choice between protecting human legacy and ensuring financial survival, yet the psychological drivers behind these trade-offs remain poorly understood. While family firms are traditionally viewed as inherently resilient, the unique emotional attachments of their owners may constrain their ability to adapt to unprecedented shocks. This study examines the behavioral underpinnings of crisis management across 11 European nations during the COVID-19 pandemic, challenging the traditional stewardship paradigm. Findings reveal a significant tension between preserving socioemotional wealth and economic survival. While family-managed firms prioritized personnel retention and financial autonomy, thus avoiding the psychological stigma of government aid, these non-financial priorities often proved detrimental to liquidity and business survival. This suggests that high emotional endowment can induce behavioral rigidity and an escalation of commitment, hindering strategic pivots. Furthermore, the results highlight a trend toward mimetic isomorphism, where extreme uncertainty forced a convergence of crisis responses across diverse organizational structures. Overall, the contribution of this study is to challenge the resilience myth, illustrating that acute shocks often override the distinctive behavioral archetype of family firms, forcing a shift toward institutional conformity and standardized mandates. Port decarbonization strategies often prioritize emissions under direct port authority control while overlooking dominant indirect sources. This study proposes an approach that combines Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) and expert elicitation. While existing studies often rely on descriptive emission inventories, this paper demonstrates the value of combining quantitative life-cycle data with expert judgment. The methodology is applied to the Port of Sines, Portugal’s largest port by cargo volume and handling capacity. The LCA revealed that Scope 3 emissions account for over 99% of total greenhouse gas emissions, with ocean-going vessels as the main contributors. The expert elicitation process prioritized energy-related measures such as renewable energy, alternative fuels, electrification, and energy efficiency, while onshore power supply and ship–port interface measures received lower priority. By comparing the results, the study reveals a misalignment between the most significant emission sources (Scope 3 emissions, particularly ocean-going vessels) and commonly prioritized decarbonization measures (measures addressing Scopes 1 and 2). The main contribution lies in combining LCA findings and expert inputs to actively inform strategic decision making, helping ports realign decarbonization strategies toward high-impact measures and providing transferable insights for other ports pursuing net-zero objectives. This manuscript creates a framework for decision support based on green urbanism to direct the sustainable development of Gamasa, an Egyptian seaside city. The paper aims to convert the concepts of green urbanism into a multi-criteria evaluation that can support strategic urban development and prioritize spatial interventions. Sustainable mobility, green and blue infrastructure, energy and resource efficiency, urban form and density, social livability and public space quality, and governance and implementation feasibility are the six dimensions that are defined. These dimensions are derived from international sustainability literature and tailored to Gamasa’s particular challenges. The study’s methodology combines a multi-criteria decision-making approach based on the AHP with spatial analysis of land use, street hierarchy, building shape, and green space distribution. Weights for these dimensions are determined by expert-based pairwise comparisons, which are backed by a SWOT analysis. To prioritize priority zones for green transformation, the weighted framework is applied to four important urban areas: residential districts, a large urban park, the waterfront, and the main urban corridor. The top priorities, according to the results, are climate-responsive coastal design, increased green and blue infrastructure, and sustainable transportation. For quickly urbanizing coastal cities, the method demonstrates how the AHP operationalizes green urbanism into quantifiable, context-sensitive goals. Full article

Scientifically assessing ecosystem health and optimizing ecological source areas (ESAs) are essential for effective environmental management, particularly in ecologically strategic mountain barrier regions. However, existing studies face challenges in identifying and optimizing ESAs. To address these limitations, this study integrated the contribution–vigor–organization–resilience (CVOR)-based ecosystem health framework, a genetic algorithm (GA), and circuit theory to assess ecosystem health, optimize ESAs, and identify ecological corridors (EC) and restoration priorities in the Daiyun Mountain Rim. The results demonstrate the following: (1) a significant ecosystem health decline from 2012 to 2022, evidenced by a 38.97% to 21.09% reduction in high-priority ecological zones accompanied by increased landscape fragmentation; (2) delineation of 90 GA-optimized ESA and 248 EC (2164.71 km), forming an interconnected ecological network; (3) enhanced connectivity metrics through GA optimization, showing α-index improvements of 0.15–0.23 and β-index gains of 0.05–0.08 compared to the traditional large-patch and morphological spatial pattern analysis (MSPA)-based ESA selection methods; (4) development of a tiered spatial strategy featuring primary/secondary restoration clusters and a “three-belt–one area–multiple clusters” framework for adaptive landscape governance. Although uncertainties remain due to the selected study period, parameter settings, and lack of field-based validation, this framework provides a useful reference for ecological planning, restoration prioritization, and ecosystem management in similar mountainous ecological barrier regions. Healthy building concepts are increasingly recognized as important for improving occupant health and well-being, yet empirical evidence on their understanding and implementation in sub-Saharan African contexts remains limited. This study provides an exploratory assessment of construction professionals’ awareness and self-reported application of healthy building concepts in Gabon. Using a structured questionnaire survey of 45 construction professionals, including architects, engineers, and contractors, the study examines sources of awareness, patterns of application across project stages, and health-related dimensions prioritized in practice. The results indicate high levels of conceptual awareness within the surveyed group, but uneven and context-dependent application. Implementation is strongly concentrated at the design stage, while continuity during construction and operation remains limited. Professionals tend to prioritize tangible and measurable dimensions such as lighting, materials, air quality, and thermal comfort, whereas psychosocial and community-related aspects receive less attention. Based on these empirical patterns, the study proposes an empirically informed and context-sensitive framework structured around six strategic pillars to support the gradual integration of healthy construction practices in Gabon. Rather than offering a prescriptive model, the framework serves as an analytical reference to inform future research, professional capacity building, and policy dialog. Given the exploratory nature of the study and its reliance on self-reported data, the findings should be interpreted as indicative rather than generalizable. Full article

National risks constitute an important but still underexplored dimension of sustainable development, particularly in countries exposed to institutional fragility, demographic decline, and geopolitical uncertainty. This study identifies and prioritizes the ten most significant risks facing Bulgaria’s development over the next decade, with particular attention to their fiscal and macro-financial transmission channels. The analysis is based on a structured expert survey conducted among 82 specialists from academia, business, research institutions, civil society, and public practice. Respondents assessed 32 potential risks according to likelihood and impact using a five-point scale. A combined priority index was constructed as the product of mean likelihood and mean impact scores. The results show that the most significant risks are concentrated around institutional and systemic vulnerabilities, especially distrust in the rule of law, ineffective healthcare, disinformation, corruption, crisis of statehood, demographic decline, and deterioration in education and infrastructure. The findings indicate that these risks affect Bulgaria’s long-term development through five main fiscal and macro-financial channels: higher sovereign risk premia, expenditure pressure, weaker revenue capacity and investment efficiency, labor market deterioration, and broader financial fragility. The study contributes to the literature on sustainability governance, sovereign resilience, and fiscal sustainability by showing that national resilience depends not only on the management of external shocks, but also on the institutional capacity of the state to absorb long-term structural pressures. The practical applicability of the study lies in the possibility and necessity of conducting a content analysis of the main strategic documents for the country’s development in order to establish the extent to which the identified main risks are reflected in them, as conclusions about the situation and as countermeasure policies. This conceptual article introduces knowledge-centric recruitment (KCR) as a distinct dynamic capability that reframes recruitment and post-hire socialization as strategic knowledge-development activities. (1) Background: Unlike conventional vacancy-driven approaches, KCR is a proactive process through which firms deliberately access and import external organizational capabilities embodied in senior professionals—termed knowledge-hires—from rival organizations. These knowledge-hires embody tacit, socio-cognitive building blocks of capabilities developed through involvement in their prior employers’ routines and practices. (2) Methods: This article develops a micro-foundational model of KCR comprising four interrelated processes: external capability scanning and prioritization, identification of target capabilities and knowledge-hires, evaluation through the novel lens of contextual capability fit, and expectations of adaptation during onboarding. (3) Results: Contextual capability fit integrates complementary and supplementary quality with knowledge distance to enable firms to forecast both the strategic value of inbound capabilities and the hire’s expected socialization difficulty. (4) Conclusions: The primary theoretical contribution lies in advancing the learning-by-hiring literature by shifting the focus from passive knowledge diffusion to deliberate, calculative capability acquisition. By integrating insights from the knowledge-based view, person–organization fit, absorptive capacity, and strategic recruitment, the KCR model offers a coherent micro-foundational framework for transforming employee mobility into a source of sustained competitive advantage. Nematode-trapping fungi are saprophytic organisms that can transform their mycelium into a parasitic lifestyle, forming traps to capture and feed on nematodes. Although this transition is triggered by environmental conditions, the genetic regulation of this metabolic shift remains unclear. This study assessed the effects of nutritional stress on mycochemical synthesis, trap morphogenesis, and Aomae1 gene expression in Arthrobotrys oligospora and Arthrobotrys musiformis. Fungal biomass was subjected to the following three-stage successive culture model: (i) nutrient-rich (Czapek–Dox broth), (ii) nutritional stress (water), and (iii) media enriched with live prey (Haemonchus contortus Hc-L3). Samples were taken for molecular analysis, and liquid culture filtrates (LCFs) were recovered for chromatographic identification of mycochemical groups. To assess trap formation (traps/cm2), mycelia from each culture model was transferred to water agar plates and defied with Hc-L3. Results showed a significant bioenergetic trade-off. Both starvation and larval presence induced a downregulation of mycochemical synthesis, which resulted in the total loss of nematocidal activity in LCfs, while triggering a morphogenetic response. Arthrobotrys musiformis showed the most aggressive phenotype with 3.8-fold increase in trap formation and a massive 429.05-fold overexpression of Aomae1 under predatory challenge. While A. oligospora showed a similar but less pronounced trend (2.4-fold increase in trap formation and 44.48-fold Aomae1 overexpression), our findings suggest that Aomae1 expression plays a critical role in the metabolic switch that regulates and redirects energy resources, prioritizing mechanical trapping mechanisms over secondary metabolism during nutrient scarcity. These findings highlight Aomae1 as a possible key activator for virulence, which offers strategic targets for the optimization of biocontrol agents against gastrointestinal nematodes in livestock. Urban tourism destinations increasingly rely on specialized segments such as wine tourism. However, limited research examines how electronic word-of-mouth (e-WOM) and personal recommendations jointly influence destination loyalty through experiential and relational pathways in urban settings. This study develops and tests an integrative model linking e-WOM to destination loyalty through experience, trust, and satisfaction as mediating mechanisms, grounded in social exchange theory and expectancy-disconfirmation theory. Data were collected from 326 tourists visiting Jerez de la Frontera (Spain) via intercept surveys at transportation terminals and analyzed using structural equation modelling with maximum likelihood estimation and bootstrapping. All nine hypothesized relationships were positive and significant, collectively accounting for 89.3% of the variance in destination loyalty. Satisfaction emerged as the strongest predictor of loyalty, far exceeding the direct effects of experience and trust, while e-WOM exerted the strongest influence on experience. Indirect effects confirmed that e-WOM influences loyalty through experience and trust pathways. This research provides the first model integrating pre-visit communication influences with experiential and relational constructs to explain destination loyalty in an urban context. Findings indicate that urban destinations should prioritize visitor satisfaction as the primary loyalty driver, while strategically managing digital reputation and ensuring alignment between online recommendations and actual destination experiences. Pavement management systems (PMS) are essential for formulating a cost-effective capital improvement plan (CIP) that adheres to budget constraints. Optimization techniques are vital in enhancing the efficiency of these plans. Among the various methods available, genetic algorithms (GA) are particularly effective at identifying optimal solutions in complex scenarios. This study introduces a GA-based priority optimization model designed to select the most beneficial road improvement projects while staying within budgetary limits. The model was applied to the extensive road network of Fort Wayne, Indiana, considering critical factors such as budget allocation, roadway classification, PASERs, treatment options, and associated costs. The results demonstrate the model’s effectiveness in prioritizing projects, ensuring that available funds are utilized to achieve maximum impact on roadway conditions. By leveraging GA, this approach not only enhances decision-making processes but also provides a robust framework for future pavement management efforts. Overall, the integration of genetic algorithms into PMS can lead to more strategic and economically sound infrastructure improvements. Full article

This paper presents a sizing and optimization methodology for LCL filters tailored to high-capacity modular power systems. The approach prioritizes the strategic selection of the resonance frequency, an asymmetric inductance design, and strict harmonic current limits. The methodology is validated through a case study simulation of a 126 MW photovoltaic plant in a region of Mexico, analyzing its 2.34 MW inverter architecture. The simulations show that precise capacitor sizing for reactive power management, combined with a passive resistive damping strategy, ensures compliance with grid interconnection standards (IEEE 1547) and power quality standards (IEC 61000). This approach simplifies practical implementation by eliminating the need for complex active damping control algorithms. Additionally, dynamic decoupling is validated through time-domain step responses, and frequency-domain sensitivity analysis confirms robust stability margins even under ±20% variations in passive parameters. Ultimately, the system achieves voltage total harmonic distortion (THD) levels below 0.18%, demonstrating a scalable solution for maintaining grid stability. Full article

The evolution from Industry 4.0 to Industry 6.0 represents a paradigm shift—moving from automation toward an integrated model that incorporates intelligentization, sustainability, and human-centric resilience. While numerous conceptual frameworks have been put forward, empirical research remains scarce, primarily because of the absence of standardized indicators derived from verifiable corporate disclosures. To fill this research gap, the present study develops three quantifiable indices—Intelligence (INT), Sustainability (SUS), and Resilience & Human-centric (RES)—by extracting data from the annual reports and ESG disclosures of 100 Chinese A-share manufacturing enterprises (covering 2022–2024). Fixed-effects panel regression models are employed to assess the impact of these indices on financial performance (ROA, ROE, EPS), market valuation (Tobin’s Q), and sustainability outcomes (ESG ratings). Our findings reveal that INT is the most significant predictor of profitability, with statistically significant positive effects on ROA and ROE—effects that are particularly pronounced among high-tech enterprises. This supports the view that digital capabilities serve as strategic assets. SUS also demonstrates a positive influence on performance, especially in non-high-tech enterprises, where eco-efficiency, regulatory compliance, and ESG-linked financing help offset technological disadvantages. RES contributes to operational and financial stability by enhancing human capital, safety protocols, and organizational practices that reduce performance volatility. Collectively, these results indicate that different types of enterprises follow distinct yet converging pathways toward Industry 6.0: high-tech enterprises capitalize on intelligence to generate innovation rents, while non-high-tech enterprises increasingly rely on sustainability and resilience as strategies to build legitimacy. This study makes significant contributions in three aspects: Methodologically, it differs from previous research that relies on questionnaires and interviews. Instead, it quantifies Industry 6.0 through auditable large-sample key indicators, enhancing the objectivity and operability of the indicators. Empirically, it provides the first empirical evidence on the development path of Industry 6.0 based on data from Chinese manufacturing enterprises. In practical terms, it offers clear references for enterprises and policymakers on the core indicators and their construction framework that should be prioritized during the transformation to Industry 6.0. By linking the index derived from enterprise disclosures with quantifiable performance results, this study effectively bridges the gap between theoretical conceptions and practical applications. It further emphasizes that Industry 6.0 is not merely a technological upgrade but a systematic transformation driven by digitalization, sustainability, and resilience aimed at enhancing enterprise performance and achieving sustainable industrial development.
