Named Data Networking (NDN) represents a promising Information-Centric Networking architecture that addresses limitations of traditional host-centric Internet protocols by emphasizing content names rather than host addresses for communication. While NDN offers advantages in content distribution, mobility support, and built-in security features, its stateful forwarding plane introduces significant vulnerabilities, particularly Interest Flooding Attacks (IFAs). These IFA attacks exploit the Pending Interest Table (PIT) by injecting malicious interest packets for non-existent or unsatisfiable content, leading to resource exhaustion and denial-of-service attacks against legitimate users. This survey examines research advances in IFA detection and mitigation from 2013 to 2024, analyzing seven relevant published detection and mitigation strategies to provide current insights into this evolving security challenge. We establish a taxonomy of attack variants, including Fake Interest, Unsatisfiable Interest, Interest Loop, and Collusive models, while examining their operational characteristics and network performance impacts. Our analysis categorizes defense mechanisms into five primary approaches: rate-limiting strategies, PIT management techniques, machine learning and artificial intelligence methods, reputation-based systems, and blockchain-enabled solutions. These approaches are evaluated for their effectiveness, computational requirements, and deployment feasibility. The survey extends to domain-specific implementations in resource-constrained environments, examining adaptations for Internet of Things deployments, wireless sensor networks, and high-mobility vehicular scenarios. Five critical research directions are proposed: adaptive defense mechanisms against sophisticated attackers, privacy-preserving detection techniques, real-time optimization for edge computing environments, standardized evaluation frameworks, and hybrid approaches combining multiple mitigation strategies. Influence of Heat Treatment on Precipitate and Microstructure of 38CrMoAl Steel

To address the central cracking problem in continuous casting slabs of 38CrMoAl steel, high-temperature tensile tests were performed using a Gleeble-3800 thermal simulator to characterize the hot ductility of the steel within the temperature range of 600–1200 °C. The phase transformation behavior was computationally analyzed via the Thermo-Calc software, while the microstructure, fracture morphology, and precipitate characteristics were systematically investigated using a metallographic microscope (MM), a field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Additionally, the effects of different holding times and cooling rates on the microstructure and precipitates of 38CrMoAl steel were also studied. The results show that the third brittle temperature region of 38CrMoAl steel is 645–1009 °C, and the fracture mechanisms can be classified into three types: (I) in the α single-phase region, the thickness of intergranular proeutectoid ferrite increases with rising temperature, leading to reduced hot ductility; (II) in the γ single-phase region, the average size of precipitates increases while the number density decreases with increasing temperature, thereby improving hot ductility; and (III) in the α + γ two-phase region, the precipitation of proeutectoid ferrite promotes crack propagation and the dense distribution of precipitates at grain boundaries causes stress concentration, further deteriorating hot ductility. Heat treatment experiments indicate that the microstructures of the specimen transformed under water cooling, air cooling, and furnace cooling conditions as follows: martensite + proeutectoid ferrite → bainite + ferrite → ferrite. The average size of precipitates first decreased, then increased, and finally decreased again with increasing holding time, while the number density exhibited the opposite trend. Therefore, when the holding time was the same, reducing the cooling rate could increase the average size of the precipitates and decrease their number density, thereby improving the hot ductility of 38CrMoAl steel. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of puffed jujube powder (PJP) supplementation in the diet on the slaughter characteristics, growth performance, meat quality, and serum antioxidant capacity of Hainan Black (HB) goats. Twenty-four healthy male HB goats, three months old with an initial body weight of 15.12 ± 3.67 kg, were randomly divided into three groups: the 10% PJP group (basal diet plus 10% PJP); the 20% PJP group (basal diet plus 20% PJP); and the control group (basal diet only). After a 10-day adaptation period, a feeding trial was carried out for 90 days in an ad libitum diet environment. The results show that the final body weight of the 20% PJP group was markedly higher (p < 0.05) than that of the control group (22.58 ± 0.94 kg vs. 20.45 ± 1.01 kg). The average daily gain of the 20% PJP group was 83.44 ± 1.78 g/d, which was substantially greater (p < 0.05) than the 59.22 ± 2.13 g/d of the control group. The feed intake of the 20% PJP group was 713.10 ± 4.54 g/d, notably higher (p < 0.05) than the 498.20 ± 4.33 g/d of the control group. In terms of slaughter characteristics, the carcass weight of the 20% PJP group was 13.99 ± 1.22 kg, considerably heavier (p < 0.05) than the 11.79 ± 1.38 kg of the control group. The muscle weight of the 20% PJP group was 11.43 ± 1.42 kg, distinctly greater (p < 0.05) than the 9.59 ± 1.99 kg of the control group. The slaughter rate of the 20% PJP group was 42.41%, showing a notable increase (p < 0.05) compared with the 37.42% of the control group, and the net meat rate of the 20% PJP group was 34.65%, with a significant rise (p < 0.05) compared with the 30.43% of the control group. Regarding serum antioxidant capacity and meat quality, the activities of serum antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), were conspicuously increased (p < 0.05) in the 20% PJP group. The meat shear force of the 20% PJP group was decreased by 12.9%, and the cooking loss was improved by 8.9% in comparison with the control group. In conclusion, the supplementation of 20% PJP in the diet was demonstrated to enhance the growth performance, improve the meat quality, and boost the antioxidant status of HB goats, thus presenting a feasible strategy for optimizing tropical goat production systems. In this paper we aimed to compare seasonality, clinical characteristics, and outcomes of Influenza A and COVID-19 in the context of influenza reemergence and ongoing Omicron circulation. We performed a retrospective comparative analysis at the Teaching Hospital of Infectious Diseases in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. We included adult patients hospitalized with Influenza A or COVID-19 between 1 November 2022 and 31 March 2024. Data were collected on demographics, clinical presentation, complications, and in-hospital mortality. We included 899 COVID-19 and 423 Influenza A patients. The median age was 74 years for COVID-19 and 65 for Influenza A (p < 0.001). The age-adjusted Charlson comorbidity index was higher in COVID-19 patients (5 vs. 3, p < 0.001). Despite this age gap, acute respiratory failure was more common in Influenza A (62.8% vs. 55.7%, p = 0.014), but ventilation rates did not differ significantly. Multivariate models showed Influenza A was associated with increased risk of intensive-care unit (ICU) admission or ventilation, whereas older COVID-19 patients had higher in-hospital mortality (5.67% vs. 3.3%, p = 0.064). Omicron COVID-19 disproportionately affected older patients with comorbidities, contributing to higher in-hospital mortality. However, Influenza A remained a significant driver of respiratory failure and ICU admission, underscoring the importance of preventive measures in high-risk groups. Full article

Background: Dietary advice for Paralympic athletes (PAs) with a spinal cord injury (PAs-SCI) requires particular attention and has been widely studied. However, currently, no particular attention has been addressed to nutritional guidelines for athletes with an amputation (PAs-AMP). This study aimed at filling up this gap, at least partially, and compared veteran PAs-SCI with PAs-AMP. Methods: A sample of 25 male PAs (12 with SCI and 13 with AMP), recruited during two training camps, was submitted to the following questionnaires: allergy questionnaire for athletes (AQUA), Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ), Starvation Symptom Inventory (SSI), neurogenic bowel dysfunction (NBD), orthorexia (ORTO-15/ORTO-7), alcohol use disorders identification test (AUDIT), and Mediterranean diet adherence (MDS). The PAs were also submitted to the following measurements: dietary Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) and intakes, body composition, handgrip strength (HGS), basal energy expenditure (BEE), peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak), peak power, peak heart rate (HR), post-exercise ketosis, and antioxidant response after a cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) to voluntary fatigue. Results: Compared to PAs-AMP, PAs-SCI had higher NBD and lower VO2peak (p < 0.05), peak power, peak HR, peak lactate, phase angle (PhA) of the dominant leg (p < 0.05), and ORTO15 (p < 0.05). The latter was related to NBD (r = −0.453), MDS (r = −0.638), and ORAC (r = −0.529), whereas ORTO7 correlated with PhA of the dominant leg (r = 0.485). Significant differences between PAs-AMP and PAs-SCI were not found in the antioxidant response, glucose, and ketone levels after CPET, nor in dietary intake, AUDIT, AQUA, NMQ, SSI, BEE, HGS, and FM%. Conclusions: The present study showed that PAs-SCI and PAs-AMP display similar characteristics in relation to lifestyle, energy intake, basal energy expenditure, and metabolic response to CPET. Based on both the similarities with PAs-SCI and the consequences of the limb deficiency impairment, PAs-AMP and PAs-SCI require personalized nutritional advice. Full article

Background: Trichosporon spp. are opportunistic fungi, capable of causing infection, especially in critically ill individuals who often use broad-spectrum antibiotics, invasive devices, and have comorbidities. Objectives The aim of this study was to analyze individuals’ clinical characteristics, evaluate tolerance to biocides, as well as biofilm formation and efflux pump activity in isolates of Trichosporon asahii. Methods: Clinical isolates of T. asahii collected between 2020 and 2023 from both hospitalized and non-hospitalized individuals, of both sexes, regardless of age, were tested for tolerance to sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide, benzalkonium chloride, and ethyl alcohol. Efflux pump activity was also assessed using ethidium bromide, and biofilm formation was measured with the Safranin test. Clinical parameters such as outcomes, source, and length of hospitalization were analyzed through electronic medical records. Results: A total of 37 clinical isolates of T. asahii were identified. Thirty-three (83.8%) isolates were from hospitalized individuals, with 81.82% collected in ICUs, an average hospital stay of 35 days, and a mortality rate of 51.6%. The tested strains displayed the largest mean inhibition zone for 2% sodium hypochlorite, indicating lower tolerance. A high level of efflux pump expression was detected among clinical isolates. Biofilm formation was detected in 25/67.5% of the isolates. Conclusions: These findings highlight the clinical relevance of T. asahii, particularly in critically ill individuals, and underscore the pathogen’s ability to tolerate biocides, express efflux pumps, and form biofilms, all of which may contribute to its persistence and pathogenicity in hospital environments. Enhanced surveillance and effective microbial control measures are essential to mitigate the risks associated with T. asahii infections. Full article

Mumps Epidemiology in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Serbia: Long-Term Trends, Immunization Gaps, and Conditions Favoring Future Outbreaks

Background/Objectives: Mumps remains a relevant vaccine-preventable disease globally, especially in settings where immunization coverage fluctuates or vaccine-induced immunity wanes. This study aimed to assess long-term trends in mumps incidence, vaccination coverage, clinical outcomes, and demographic characteristics in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina (AP Vojvodina), Serbia, over a 47-year period. Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study using surveillance data from the Institute of Public Health of Vojvodina. Analyses included annual mumps incidence rates (1978–2024), coverage with mumps-containing vaccines (MuCVs; 1986–2024), monthly case counts, and individual-level case data for the 1997–2024 period. Variables analyzed included age, month of notification, gender, vaccination status, presence of clinical complications, and the method used for case confirmation. Results: Following the introduction of MuCV in 1986, the mumps incidence markedly declined, with limited resurgences in 2000, 2009, and 2012. Between 1997 and 2024, a total of 1358 cases were reported, with 62.7% occurring in males. Over time, the age distribution shifted, with adolescents and young adults being increasingly affected during the later (2011–2024) observed period. In 2012, the highest age-specific incidence was observed among individuals aged 10–19 and 20–39 years (49.1 and 45.5 per 100,000, respectively). Vaccination coverage for both MuCV doses was suboptimal in several years. The proportion of unvaccinated cases decreased over time, while the proportion with unknown vaccination status increased. Mumps-related complications—such as orchitis, pancreatitis, and meningitis—were rare and predominantly affected unvaccinated individuals: 84.2% of orchitis, 40.0% of pancreatitis, and all meningitis cases. Only two pancreatitis cases (40.0%) were reported after one MMR dose, while fully vaccinated individuals (two doses) had one orchitis case (5.3%) and no other complications. Laboratory confirmation was applied more consistently from 2009 onward, with 49.6% of cases confirmed that year (58 out of 117), and, in several years after 2020, only laboratory-confirmed cases were reported, indicating improved diagnostic capacity. Conclusions: Despite substantial progress in controlling mumps, gaps in vaccine coverage, waning immunity, and incomplete vaccination records continue to pose a risk for mumps transmission. Strengthening routine immunization, ensuring high two-dose MuCV coverage, improving vaccination record keeping, and enhancing laboratory-based case confirmation are critical. Consideration should be given to booster doses in high-risk populations and to conducting a seroepidemiological study to estimate the susceptible population for mumps in AP Vojvodina. Full article

In general, the silkworm, Bombyx mori, has a diapause trait in its eggs. Therefore, transgenic silkworm can be produced by embryonic microinjection using eggs laid by a non-diapause strain in B. mori. In this study, we performed microinjection using eggs of diapause strains which have good characteristics for industrial use, such as a big cocoon, thin and smooth silk, and tolerance against disease due to the growing industrial use of transgenic silkworms. For the conversion of egg diapause traits from diapause to non-diapause types, we used anti-serum against the diapause hormone of B. mori (BmDH), which was injected into maternal pupae, producing non-diapause eggs at a high rate. Finally, we attempted microinjection using three diapause strains with different voltinism (i.e., number of generations of an organism in a year) and were able to successfully produce transgenic silkworms in all three of them, demonstrating that our method is applicable to a wide range of silkworm strains with a diapause trait. Mechanical Behavior and Response Mechanism of Short Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Structures Under Low-Speed Impact

Short fiber-reinforced polymer (SFRP) has been extensively applied in structural engineering due to its exceptional specific strength and superior mechanical properties. Its mechanical behavior under medium strain rate conditions has become a key focus of ongoing research. A comprehensive understanding of the response characteristics and underlying mechanisms under such conditions is of critical importance for both theoretical development and practical engineering applications. This study proposes an innovative three-dimensional (3D) multiscale constitutive model that comprehensively integrates mesoscopic fiber–matrix interface effects and pore characteristics. To systematically investigate the dynamic response and damage evolution of SFRP under medium strain rate conditions, 3D-printed SFRP porous structures with volume fractions of 25%, 35%, and 45% are designed and subjected to drop hammer impact experiments combined with multiscale numerical simulations. The experimental and simulation results demonstrate that, for specimens with a 25% volume fraction, the strain rate strengthening effect is the primary contributor to the increase in peak stress. In contrast, for specimens with a 45% volume fraction, the interaction between damage evolution and strain rate strengthening leads to a more complex stress–strain response. The specific energy absorption (SEA) of 25% volume fraction specimens increases markedly with increasing strain rate. However, for specimens with 35% and 45% volume fractions, the competition between these two mechanisms results in non-monotonic variations in energy absorption efficiency (EAE). The dominant failure mode under impact loading is shear-dominated compression, with damage evolution becoming increasingly complex as the fiber volume fraction increases. Furthermore, the damage characteristics transition from fiber pullout and matrix folding at lower volume fractions to the coexistence of brittle and ductile behaviors at higher volume fractions. The numerical simulations exhibit strong agreement with the experimental data. Multi-directional cross-sectional analysis further indicates that the initiation and propagation of shear bands are the principal drivers of structural instability. Analysis of Calcaneal Fracture-Related Complications—A Retrospective Chart Review

Background/Objectives: The calcaneus is the most commonly injured tarsal bone, potentially resulting in long-term functional deficiencies and disability. The type of treatment mainly depends on fracture type and morphology. Treatment of these fractures can be challenging due to a limited soft tissue envelope and is frequently associated with complications. The aim of this study was to classify fracture types and identify factors associated with in-hospital complications. Methods: Patients with calcaneal fractures treated at our level I trauma center between 1997 and 2017 were included. Demographic data, comorbidities, fracture characteristics, type of treatment, complications and revisions, compliance and accompanying injuries were evaluated. Results: A total of 238 patients (m = 163, f = 75) at a mean age of 40 years sustaining either uni- or bilateral calcaneal fracture resulting in a total of 288 calcaneal fractures. Concomitant injuries were present in 103 patients (35.9%). Traumatic spine lesions were present in 21.9%. Complications were recorded in 59 fractures (20.5%). Open fractures were more likely to develop complications (76.0% vs. 15.2%, p < 0.001). Significant complication (33% vs. 14%, p < 0.001) and wound complication rates (29% vs. 10%, p < 0.001) were found in multiple-injured patients. All open fractures were surgically treated on the day of admission. In calcaneal fractures with a Böhler angle below 0 degrees, more complications were seen (33% vs. 17%, p < 0.05). Conclusions: High complication rates following calcaneal fractures were detected, with an increased likelihood in open fractures and in patients with multiple injuries. A negative Böhler angle was associated with worse outcomes. Full article

In this study, a Z-scheme Ho2InSbO7/Ag3PO4 (HAO) heterojunction photocatalyst was successfully fabricated for the first time by ultrasound-assisted solvothermal method. The structural features, compositional components and morphological characteristics of the synthesized materials were thoroughly characterized by a series of techniques, including X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectrum, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. A comprehensive array of analytical techniques, including ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance absorption spectra, photoluminescence spectroscopy, time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy, photocurrent testing, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance, and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy, was employed to systematically investigate the optical, chemical, and photoelectronic properties of the materials. Using oxytetracycline (OTC), a representative tetracycline antibiotic, as the target substrate, the photocatalytic activity of the HAO composite was assessed under visible light irradiation. Comparative analyses demonstrated that the photocatalytic degradation capability of the HAO composite surpassed those of its individual components. Notably, during the degradation process, the application of the HAO composite resulted in an impressive removal efficiency of 99.89% for OTC within a span of 95 min, along with a total organic carbon mineralization rate of 98.35%. This outstanding photocatalytic performance could be ascribed to the efficient Z-scheme electron-hole separation system occurring between Ho2InSbO7 and Ag3PO4. Moreover, the adaptability and stability of the HAO heterojunction were thoroughly validated. Through experiments involving the capture of reactive species and electron paramagnetic resonance analysis, the active species generated by HAO were identified as hydroxyl radicals (•OH), superoxide anions (•O2), and holes (h+). This identification provides valuable insights into the mechanisms and pathways associated with the photodegradation of OTC. In conclusion, this research not only elucidates the potential of HAO as an efficient Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst but also marks a significant contribution to the advancement of sustainable remediation strategies for OTC contamination. Terahertz (THz) communication is regarded as a key technology for achieving high-speed data transmission and wireless communication due to its ultra-high frequency and large bandwidth characteristics. In this study, we focus on a single-carrier THz communication system and propose a two-stage deep learning-based time-domain equalization method, specifically designed to mitigate the nonlinear distortions in such systems, thereby enhancing communication reliability and performance. The method adopts a progressive learning strategy, whereby global characteristics are initially captured before progressing to local levels. This enables the effective identification and equalization of channel characteristics, particularly in the mitigation of nonlinear distortion and random interference, which can otherwise negatively impact communication quality. In an experimental setting at a frequency of 230 GHz and a channel distance of 2.1 m, this method demonstrated a substantial reduction in the system’s bit error rate (BER), exhibiting particularly noteworthy performance enhancements in comparison to before equalization. To validate the model’s generalization capability, data collection and testing were also conducted at a frequency of 310 GHz and a channel distance of 1.5 m. Experimental results show that the proposed time-domain equalizer, trained using the two-stage DL framework, achieved significant BER reductions of approximately 92.15% at 230 GHz (2.1 m) and 83.33% at 310 GHz (1.5 m), compared to the system’s performance prior to equalization. The method exhibits stable performance under varying conditions, supporting its use in future THz communication studies. Full article

The study is motivated by the application of dry finish milling for post-build processing of additive Ti6Al4V blanks, since the use of neither lubricant nor coolants has been attracting increasing attention due to its environmental benefits, non-toxicity, and the elimination of the need for additional cleaning processes. For end mills, wear patterns were investigated upon finish milling of the SLM Ti6Al4V samples under various machining conditions (by varying the values of radial depth of cut and feed values at a constant level of axial depth of cut and cutting speed). When using all the applied milling modes, the identical tool wear mechanism was revealed. Built-up edges mainly developed on the leading surfaces, increasing the surface roughness on the SLM Ti6Al4V samples but protecting the cutting edges. However, abrasive wear was mainly characteristic of the flank surfaces that accelerated peeling of the protective coatings and increased wear of the end mills. The following milling parameters have been established as being close to rational ones: Vc = 60 m/min, Vf = 400 mm/min, ap = 4 mm, and ae = 0.4 mm. They affected the surface roughness of the SLM Ti6Al4V samples in the following way: max cutting thickness—8 μm; built-up edge at rake surface—50 ± 3 μm; max wear of flank surface—15 ± 1 μm; maximum adherence of workpiece. Mode III provided the maximum MRR value and negligible wear of the end mill, but its main disadvantage was the high average surface roughness on the SLM Ti6Al4V sample. Mode II was characterized by both the lowest average surface roughness and the lowest wear of the end mill, as well as an insufficient MRR value. Since these two modes differed only in their feed rates, their values should be optimized in the range from 200 to 400 mm/min. Full article

To accurately assess the effect of different plate thicknesses on the residual stress field of laser shock peened GH3039 superalloy, residual stress measurements were performed on GH3039 alloy plates with thicknesses of 2 mm and 5 mm after laser shock peening (LSP) treatment. Both quasi-static and high strain rate mechanical tests of GH3039 were conducted, and the Johnson-Cook (J-C) constitutive equation for GH3039 alloy at specific strain rates was fitted based on the experimental results. To obtain the parameter C in the J-C constitutive equation of GH3039 alloy under ultra-high strain rates, a modified method was proposed based on LSP experiment and finite element simulation results. Using the modified GH3039 alloy J-C constitutive equation, numerical simulations and comparative analyses of the residual stress field of GH3039 alloy plates of different thicknesses under LSP were carried out using ABAQUS software. The simulated residual stress fields of laser-shocked GH3039 alloy plates of different thicknesses were in good agreement with the experimental measurements, indicating that the modified GH3039 alloy J-C constitutive equation can accurately predict the mechanical behavior of GH3039 alloy under ultra-high strain rates. Based on the modified GH3039 alloy J-C constitutive equation, the effect of different plate thicknesses on the residual stress distribution of laser-shocked GH3039 alloy was studied, along with the underlying mechanisms. The unique distribution characteristics of residual stresses in laser-shocked GH3039 plates with varying thicknesses are primarily attributed to differences in plate bending stiffness and the detrimental coupling effects of reflected tensile waves. Fumiquinazolines F and G from the Fungus Penicillium thymicola Demonstrates Anticancer Efficacy Against Triple-Negative Breast Cancer MDA-MB-231 Cells by Inhibiting Epithelial–Mesenchymal Transition

The secondary metabolites of the fungus Penicillium thymicola, fumiquinazolines F and G, have antibacterial and antifungal characteristics; however, their potential anti-tumor action against human cancer cells remains unknown. The goal of our study was to determine the biological efficacy of fumiquinazolines F and G on breast and prostate cancer cells. Cancer cell proliferation and migration were monitored in real time using xCELLigence technology and flow cytometry. Alterations in mRNA and protein expression were assessed by RT-qPCR, ELISA, and Western blotting. Our data indicate that fumiquinazolines F and G are more effective in inhibiting breast cancer cell proliferation than prostate cancer cells. Fumiquinazoline F is active against both hormone-dependent epithelial MCF-7 (IC50 48 μM) and hormone-resistant triple-negative mesenchymal MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells (IC50 54.1 μM). The metabolite has low cytotoxicity but slows cell cycle progression. In fumiquinazoline F-treated MDA-MB-231 cells, the levels of proteins implicated in epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) (such as E-cadherin, vimentin, and CD44) fluctuate, resulting in a decrease in cell migratory rate and adhesion to a hyaluronic acid-coated substrate. Thus, fumiquinazolines F and G exhibit anticancer activity by inhibiting EMT, cell proliferation, and migration, hence reverting malignant cells to a less pathogenic phenotype. The compound’s multi-target anticancer profile underscores its potential for further exploration of novel EMT-regulating pathways. Full article
