The traditional continuous, quantitative spraying technology ignores the severity of pests, diseases and grasses, spatial distribution and other differences, resulting in low effective utilization of pesticides, environmental pollution and other problems. Variable-rate spray technology has become an important development direction in the field of precision agriculture by dynamically sensing crop canopy morphology, pest and disease distribution, and environmental parameters, adjusting the application amount in real time, and significantly improving pesticide utilization. In this study, we systematically review the core progress of variable-rate spray technology; focus on the technical system of information detection, spray volume model, and control system; analyze the current bottlenecks; and propose an optimization path to adapt to the complex agricultural conditions. At the level of information perception, LiDAR, machine vision, and multi-source sensor fusion technology constitute the main perception architecture, and infrared and ultrasonic sensors assist target recognition in complex scenes. In the construction of the spray volume model, models based on canopy volume, leaf area density, etc., are used to realize dynamic application decision by fusing equipment operating parameters, pest and disease levels, meteorological conditions, and so on. The control system takes the solenoid valve + PID control as the core program, and improves the response speed through PWM regulation and closed-loop feedback. The current technical bottlenecks are mainly concentrated in the sensor dynamic detection accuracy, model environmental adaptability, and the reliability of the execution parts. In the future, it is necessary to further promote anti-jamming multi-source heterogeneous sensor data fusion, multi-factor adaptive spray model development, lightweight edge computing deployment, and solenoid valve structural parameter optimization and other technical research, with a view to promoting the application of variable-rate spray technology to the field on a large scale and providing a theoretical reference and technological support for the green transformation of agriculture. This study investigates how improvements in energy efficiency (EE) contribute to the sustainable growth rate (SGR) of manufacturing firms. Using panel data from Chinese A-share listed companies between 2012 and 2023, we provide empirical evidence that higher EE significantly enhances firms’ ability to maintain long-term and stable growth. Furthermore, the findings reveal that executives’ green perception (EGP) and environmental protection investment (EPI) strengthen this positive relationship, while an excessive green innovation bubble (GIB) weakens it. By integrating insights from corporate governance and sustainability research, this study highlights the critical roles of managerial orientation, resource allocation, and innovation quality in shaping the pathway from EE to sustainable growth. The results extend the understanding of how micro-level corporate actions support global sustainability goals and provide a nuanced perspective on balancing efficiency and innovation. Practically, the findings suggest that managers should embed EE into strategic decisions, while policymakers should strengthen financial and institutional support to facilitate corporate green transition. This research contributes to the literature by offering new evidence from an emerging market context and by demonstrating the multidimensional mechanisms through which EE fosters corporate sustainable development. With the growth of the global population and the increasing scarcity of arable land, traditional agricultural production is confronted with multiple challenges, such as efficiency improvement, precision operation, and sustainable development. The progressive advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has created a transformative opportunity for the intelligent upgrade of agricultural equipment. This article systematically presents recent progress in computer vision, machine learning (ML), and intelligent sensing. The key innovations are highlighted in areas such as object detection and recognition (e.g., a K-nearest neighbor (KNN) achieved 98% accuracy in distinguishing vibration signals across operation stages); autonomous navigation and path planning (e.g., a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-optimized task planner for multi-arm harvesting robots reduced execution time by 10.7%); state perception (e.g., a multilayer perceptron (MLP) yielded 96.9% accuracy in plug seedling health classification); and precision control (e.g., an intelligent multi-module coordinated control system achieved a transplanting efficiency of 5000 plants/h). The findings reveal a deep integration of AI models with multimodal perception technologies, significantly improving the operational efficiency, resource utilization, and environmental adaptability of agricultural equipment. This integration is catalyzing the transition toward intelligent, automated, and sustainable agricultural systems. Nevertheless, intelligent agricultural equipment still faces technical challenges regarding data sample acquisition, adaptation to complex field environments, and the coordination between algorithms and hardware. Looking ahead, the convergence of digital twin (DT) technology, edge computing, and big data-driven collaborative optimization is expected to become the core of next-generation intelligent agricultural systems. These technologies have the potential to overcome current limitations in perception and decision-making, ultimately enabling intelligent management and autonomous decision-making across the entire agricultural production chain. This article aims to provide a comprehensive foundation for advancing agricultural modernization and supporting green, sustainable development. Full article

University campuses play a crucial role in sustainable development; however, the current green campus evaluation systems tend to focus primarily on the physical environment and building technology, often overlooking user perception and the impact of these factors on the execution of green campus strategies. Starting with an examination of the connotation and evolution of green campuses, we derived relevant indicators of campus subjective perceptions from both domestic and international green campus evaluation systems. We collected user feedback through satisfaction questionnaires and text data on the green campuses of nine representative Chinese universities. Factor analysis was used to establish the correlations between campus planning and subjective perceptions across six key areas. This research applied importance–performance analysis (IPA) to assess the prioritization of each green campus indicator, integrating it with textual semantic analysis to better understand the perceptions and attitudes of campus users toward green campus development. The findings suggest that the objectives of a green campus cannot be fully achieved using only technical or physical evaluation criteria. Instead, combining subjective feedback with quantitative indicators forms the foundation for effective strategy development. This study also found that users were more concerned about the design of details related to learning, living, entertainment, and recreation than the broader green campus planning decisions made by planners and decision-makers. Focusing on user perception and balancing scientific planning with public participation can help achieve the ultimate goal of green campus planning and design, adhering to a human-centered approach. This research focuses on Chinese listed companies to explore the influence of green-oriented strategies and green innovation on corporate productivity. Using empirical data from 2011 to 2022, the study investigates the positive effects of executives’ green perceptions on new quality productivity and the enhancing role of green innovation. The results indicate that executives’ green perceptions significantly enhance new quality productivity. Furthermore, heterogeneity analyses reveal variations in this effect based on firm size, type, and pollution levels, demonstrating the environmental sensitivity of green strategies. Robustness tests reinforce the consistency of these results. Additionally, the research establishes that green innovation not only directly boosts new quality productivity but also strengthens the positive influence of executive green perceptions on productivity. These insights emphasize the critical synergy between green innovation and executive commitment to sustainability as a means to boost productivity, offering valuable guidance for policymakers and business leaders aiming to advance corporate productivity through sustainable practices. The energy-consuming right trading policy (ECRTP) represents a significant initiative to promote the sustainable development of Chinese enterprises. This study employs the difference-in-differences methodology to analyze how ECRTP influences ESG performance based on data from A-share listed industrial enterprises in China from 2006 to 2020. The findings indicate that ECRTP effectively enhances corporate ESG performance, and this conclusion holds valid following a battery of robustness checks. Moreover, ECRTP improves corporate ESG performance by promoting green technological innovation and green perceptions among executives. Tests for heterogeneity show that the ECRTP exerts a more pronounced influence on ESG performance for enterprises located in regions with high public environmental awareness, heavily polluting industries, and coastal areas. This study broadens the literature on ECRTP effectiveness evaluation, providing valuable insights for refining the design of these policies, promoting their implementation, and facilitating the achievement of dual control targets for energy consumption. In response to the intensifying compression of resources and the environment associated with rapid industrial growth and increasing living standards, green production and sustainable living have developed essential facts for ecologically conscious progress. Despite the potential benefits of synergy, the complex relationship between green production and living organisms presents challenges that have not been thoroughly explored. This paper aims to fill this gap by proposing a comprehensive mechanism model that elucidates the collaboration between green production and life. Using comprehensive interviews and grounded theory procedures, this study, situated within the supply and demand context, precisely undoes the important basics and academic foundations of the synergy association between green production and living. The outcomes of this study disclose prominent insights: Firstly, collaborative perception, collective ability, and a cooperative atmosphere develop as substantial features with a significant effect on the synergy between green production and living, with resource environments having an indirect impact through their stimulus on synergy capacity. Secondly, the synergy efforts in green production and living, propelled by policy, social, and market environments, display characteristic features. Thirdly, the moderate perception of green production and living relationship is divided into the following four visible facets: educating a demand market for green supply, meeting green demand, catalyzing demand through green supply, and pushing supply through green demand. This paper proposes valuable recommendations, providing targeted policy designs and execution pathways for legislative entities looking for operative intercessions to adoptive collective activities in green production and living. This paper analysed the responses of 242 civil servants collected during a survey for public authorities personnel with management or executive responsibilities. The survey focused on the perception of respondents regarding the key competencies and the utility of the sustainability development expert occupation (SDE). Based on the assumption that the responses were influenced by multiple factors, the impact of perceptual theory, agency theory and sustainability theory calibrated the analysis of the collected data. Cronbach’s alpha was used to test the reliability of the received responses and multinominal logistic regression with a single dichotomous variable (Regulation Awareness) and several continuous predictor variables (Specialization, Knowledge, Attributions and Competence) was employed to determine to what extent the SDE occupation would contribute to the implementation of sustainable development policies. This paper argues that the ‘green’ competency matrix appropriate for the implementation of sustainable development policies should include executive, compliance promoting, ethical and reporting competencies. The creation of a green competency matrix is an important step toward changing the organisational culture of the public or private sectors to achieve sustainable and reliable development. This research can help organizations and public authorities understand where their efforts should be focused to efficiently incorporate sustainability development into their systems. Full article

With the rapid development of global industrialization and modernization, carbon emissions have brought about serious climate warming and environmental pollution problems. Chinese enterprises, as the major players in carbon emissions, are important in terms of promoting the green transformation of the economy. It is particularly important to investigate the relationship and mechanism of action between carbon emission reduction and corporate sustainable development in Chinese enterprises. This study aims to determine whether reducing the intensity of carbon emissions can make businesses more sustainable and to analyze the moderating influences of government environmental subsidies, media monitoring, and executives’ green opinions on the link between the two variables. The study sample consists of Shanghai and Shenzhen A-shares data from 2015 to 2020, and a fixed-effects model is employed for analysis. Data were obtained from the China Stock Market & Accounting Research database, the Financial News Database of Listed Companies, and enterprise financial statement notes, etc. Stata17.0 was used to clean and analyze the data. The results indicate that businesses can greatly improve their long-term viability by lowering their carbon emissions. Additionally, government environmental subsidies, media monitoring, and executives’ green perceptions all enhance the correlation between corporate sustainability and reduce carbon emission intensity. This study not only enriches the relationship between environmental governance and sustainable development from a theoretical perspective, but also further expands the stakeholder theory. It also finds the mechanism of the role of the government and media on corporate carbon emissions for sustainable development in practice, which provides effective guidance to accelerate the promotion of carbon emission reduction and, thus, the sustainable development of Chinese enterprises. On October 2020, Real Betis Balompié, a football club located in Seville (Andalucia), presented the Forever Green programme, a global programme of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that, through the club’s foundation, enables the entity to position itself in areas of sustainable development and environment at a global level. This project was preceded by a sponsorship initiative with the Green Earth project, as well as having been the first football club to sign the United Nations’ Climate Change Now initiative. This article aims to explain the rebranding process of a sports brand based on values linked to sustainability and to assess the impact this rebranding process has had on the fans’ perception of the brand. The methodology used was a combination of in-depth interviews with the executives charged with leading the rebranding process and a convenience survey given to 100 fans to assess the impact of the initiative. The results show that both the entity and the fans agree on a holistic vision of what the CSR is, altruistic in nature, and that its initiatives should be applicable across the entire organisation. However, although the club’s link with values of the environment and sustainability is highly valued by the fans, they still do not feel directly called upon to take part in actions that the club organises. The plant composition is a fundamental element in public green spaces, improving the environment and people’s quality of life. The executing of floristic inventories can contribute to better understanding and management of these spaces. Here, we sought to know the plants used in the afforestation of the main public green spaces in the town of Oriximiná, eastern Brazilian Amazon, as well as to perform a brief analysis of the population’s perception regarding the afforestation of these environments. The plants were collected and identified using specific literature and dichotomous keys, in addition to consultations in virtual herbariums. The analysis of the population’s perception took place through interviews, with questionnaires collected in each public green space. We registered 1616 individuals from the flora of the squares, distributed in 16 families, 24 genera, and 28 species. Exotic plants are predominant in number species and of individuals. The interviewees demonstrated that they are aware of the importance of plants in the squares and providing shade stands out as the most cited benefit. The afforestation of the squares shows some irregularities, highlighting the need for better planning which includes the use of native species and the participation of the local community in the management of these green areas. Finally, we provide a list of native species, naturally occurring in the Amazon region, that can be used in urban afforestation. Full article

The main goal of this study was to improve students’ outcomes and perception in Mathematics. For this, 12 out of 34 voluntary students were involved in an international contest: European Space Agency (ESA) Mission Space Lab. The experience was organized as STEM, under a guided PjBL. Students identified an environmental problem, executed a way to monitor it from the International Space Station (ISS) and interpreted the data received. Students’ final report was awarded by ESA. Additionally, participants increased their performance in their math final exams compared to the control group. Furthermore, the perception of students and their families about the usefulness of mathematics was very positive. The only drawback detected was the increase of workload. Thus, Green STEM, using direct instruction and guide in PjBL, may be a good tool to improve students’ grades and opinion about the importance of mathematics. Full article

This study explores the interaction between environmental consciousness and sustainable food attributes as predictors in the market segmentation process for sustainable foods with respect to United States (U.S.) Generation Z (Gen Z) consumers. This study was executed using a cross-national, web-based survey to analyze and categorize Gen Z female (n = 435) and male (n = 377) consumers between 18 and 23 years of age living in the continental United States. The objectives of this study were to classify U.S. Gen Z consumers into unique segments based on their environmental consciousness and to assess the functional relationships among the following: (a) their degree of ecological awareness; (b) the importance of the perception of sustainable food attributes; (c) their food choices associated with healthy eating habits; and (d) sociodemographics. Survey data were analyzed using cluster analysis of consumer groups based on environmental consciousness. Environmental consciousness was measured using a composite score of the environmental involvement scale and the environmental values scale. Gen Z consumers with high environmental consciousness (sustainable activists) and moderate ecological awareness (sustainable believers) considered more eco-friendly and healthy product attributes when purchasing sustainable food, whereas Gen Z consumers with low environmental consciousness (sustainable moderates) considered more extrinsic product attributes (e.g., price and convenience). Furthermore, the results indicate that food choices associated with healthy eating habits could be used to develop a profile for different eco-conscious Gen Z consumer groups. The contributions of this study are twofold. First, for academic researchers, this paper extends marketing segmentation research concerning environmentally sensitive young consumers. Second, for industry professionals, this study provides food retailers or food service operators with sustainable consumer values that will aid in the development of effective, green marketing strategies to better attract and meet the sustainability expectations of Gen Z—the consumer segment with the most spending power of any generation. Legumes are valued in agricultural systems, as they can contribute to a more sustainable land use. However, their economic value is low. Despite health and environmental benefits, marketers struggle to communicate the worth of legumes to consumers. We evaluate the worth of health and, in particular, environmental claims that would spread consumers’ awareness of ecological advantages. Utilizing a large consumer sample, we execute binding online auctions. Comparing claim-treated and untreated subjects (between design), we model the price premium that potential customers are willing to pay (WTP) for having pasta in a legume instead of a wheat version. We find that claims may increase the WTP, however, a mix of environmental and health claims is superior to individual claims. Effect sizes suggest that the mix of claims increases the WTP by roughly 35% (20 cents). The link of WTP and food attitudes, such as concern for health in eating habits or social reservations towards legumes, varies depending on whether the green-pea or chickpea pasta was evaluated. A critical perception of legumes’ association with flatulence reduces the WTP. Developing the online auction may enable researchers to increase the external validity of consumer samples. The purpose of this research is to explore sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) trends, and firms’ strategic positioning and execution with regard to sustainability in the textile and apparel industry based on news articles and sustainability reports. Further analysis of the rhetoric in Chief executive officer (CEO) letters within sustainability reports is used to determine firms’ resoluteness, positive entailments, sharing of values, perception of reality, and sustainability strategy and execution feasibility. Computer-based content analysis is used for this research: Leximancer is applied for text analysis, while dictionary-based text mining program DICTION and SPSS are used for rhetorical analysis. Overall, contents similar to the literature on environmental, social, and economic aspects of the triple bottom line (TBL) are observed, however, topics such as regulation, green incentives, and international standards are not readily observed. Furthmore, ethical issues, sustainable production, quality, and customer roles are emphasized in texts analyzed. The CEO letter analysis indicates that listed firms show relatively low realism and high commonality, while North American firms exhibit relatively high commonality, and Europe firms show relatively high realism. The results will serve as a baseline for providing academia guidelines in SSCM research, and provide an opportunity for businesses to complement their sustainability strategies and executions.
