As a new generation of mobile communication networks, 6G security faces many new security challenges. Vehicle to Everything (V2X) will be an important part of 6G. In V2X, connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) need to frequently share data with other vehicles and infrastructures. Therefore, identity revocation technology in the authentication is an important way to secure CAVs and other 6G scenario applications. This paper proposes an efficient credential revocation scheme with a four-layer architecture. First, a rapid pre-filtration layer is constructed based on the cuckoo filter, responsible for the initial screening of credentials. Secondly, a directed routing layer and the precision judgement layer are designed based on the consistency hash and the dynamic RSA accumulator. By proposing the dynamic expansion of the RSA accumulator and load-balancing algorithm, a smaller and more stable revocation delay can be achieved when many users and terminal devices access 6G. Finally, a trusted storage layer is built based on the blockchain, and the key revocation parameters are uploaded to the blockchain to achieve a tamper-proof revocation mechanism and trusted data traceability. Based on this architecture, this paper also proposes a detailed identity credential revocation and verification process. Compared to existing solutions, this paper’s solution has a combined average improvement of 59.14% in the performance of the latency of the cancellation of the inspection, and the system has excellent load balancing, with a standard deviation of only 11.62, and the maximum deviation is controlled within the range of ±4%. Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs), recognized as one of the most promising key technologies for sixth-generation (6G) mobile communications, are characterized by their minimal energy expenditure, cost-effectiveness, and straightforward implementation. In this study, we develop a novel communication channel model that integrates RIS-enabled base stations with unmanned ground vehicles. To enhance the system’s adaptability, we implement a fluid antenna system (FAS) at the unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) terminal. This innovative model demonstrates exceptional versatility across various wireless communication scenarios through the strategic adjustment of active ports. The inherent dynamic reconfigurability of the FAS provides superior flexibility and adaptability in air-to-ground communication environments. In the paper, we derive and study key performance characteristics like the autocorrelation function (ACF), validating the model’s effectiveness. The results demonstrate that the RIS-FAS collaborative scheme significantly enhances channel reliability while effectively addressing critical challenges in 6G networks, including signal blockage and spatial constraints in mobile terminals. Recent technological advancements have resulted in the emergence of portable electronic devices (PEDs), including mobile phones equipped with satellite communication capabilities. These devices generally emit higher power, which can potentially cause electromagnetic interference to GPS antennas. This study uses both simulation and experimental methods to evaluate the interference path loss (IPL) between PEDs located inside an A320 aircraft and an external GPS antenna. The effects of PED location, antenna polarization, and frequency bands on IPL were simulated and analyzed. Additionally, measurement experiments were conducted on an A320 aircraft, and statistical methods were used to compare the experimental data with the simulation results. Considering the front-door coupling of both spurious and intentional radiated emissions, the measured IPL is up to 15 ± 3 dB lower than the IPLtarget. This result should be interpreted with caution. This issue offers new insights into the potential risks of electromagnetic interference in aviation environments. The findings help quantify the probability of interference with GPS antennas. Furthermore, the modeling simplification method used in this study may be applicable to the analysis of other large and complex structures. Full article

As communication technologies continue to evolve, Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs) have become a crucial and highly potential technology for sixth-generation (6G) mobile communication systems. Their key competitive advantages lie in their cost-effectiveness, minimal power consumption, and simple deployment. To address the limitations of current communication paradigms, this study innovatively integrates RIS technology into vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication systems. Current methodologies fail to comprehensively elucidate the transmission principles underlying RIS-assisted V2V fluid antenna system (FAS) communications. The current channel characteristic analysis techniques and modeling theories struggle to achieve a balance between computational accuracy and computational complexity. To overcome these problems, this study systematically constructed a multipath sub-channel model in RIS-assisted V2V communication. Combining detailed simulation with theoretical analysis, a reliable parametric channel statistical model was established. This progress successfully overcame the main obstacle of the traditional RIS channel modeling method, which was unable to coordinate accuracy and efficiency. Full article

The integration of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) with non-terrestrial networks (NTNs), particularly those enabled by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drone-based platforms, has emerged as a transformative approach to enhance 6G connectivity in high-mobility scenarios. UAV-assisted NTNs offer flexible deployment, dynamic altitude control, and rapid network reconfiguration, making them ideal candidates for RIS-based signal optimization. However, the high mobility of UAVs and their three-dimensional trajectory dynamics introduce unique challenges in maintaining robust, low-latency links and seamless handovers. This paper presents a comprehensive performance analysis of RIS-assisted UAV-based NTNs, focusing on optimizing RIS phase shifts to maximize the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR), throughput, energy efficiency, and reliability under UAV mobility constraints. A joint optimization framework is proposed that accounts for UAV path loss, aerial shadowing, interference, and user mobility patterns, tailored specifically for aerial communication networks. Extensive simulations are conducted across various UAV operation scenarios, including urban air corridors, rural surveillance routes, drone swarms, emergency response, and aerial delivery systems. The results reveal that RIS deployment significantly enhances the SINR and throughput while navigating energy and latency trade-offs in real time. These findings offer vital insights for deploying RIS-enhanced aerial networks in 6G, supporting mission-critical drone applications and next-generation autonomous systems. Full article

This study presents an analysis of England’s 2023 national assessment of assistive technology (AT) access and use, with a particular focus on the qualitative impact of AT as described by users. It aims to address limitations in conventional AT impact assessments, which often prioritize clinical outcomes or user satisfaction, by offering a deeper account of how impact is experienced in everyday life. Drawing on data from a nationally representative survey of 7000 disabled adults and children, as well as six focus group discussions and 28 semi-structured interviews with stakeholders across the WHO 5Ps framework (People, Providers, Personnel, Policy, and Products), the study applies Amartya Sen and Martha Nussbaum’s Capability Approach to explore these experiences. Using inductive thematic analysis, we identify three main domains of user-reported impact: Functions and Activities (e.g., mobility, communication, vision, leisure, daily routines, and cognitive support), Outcomes (e.g., autonomy, quality of life, safety, social participation, wellbeing, and work and learning), and Lived Experience (e.g., access barriers, essentiality, identity and emotional connection, peace of mind, and sense of control and confidence). These findings offer a more user-centered understanding of AT impact and can inform the development of future measurement tools, research design, and government-led interventions to improve AT provision. In recent years, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, has significantly surged across civil, military, and commercial sectors. Ensuring reliable and efficient communication between UAVs and between UAVs and base stations is challenging due to dynamic factors such as altitude, mobility, environmental obstacles, and atmospheric conditions, which existing communication models fail to address fully. This paper presents a multi-ray channel model that captures the complexities of the airspace network, applicable to both ground-to-air (G2A) and air-to-air (A2A) communications to ensure reliability and efficiency within the network. The model outperforms conventional line-of-sight assumptions by integrating multiple rays to reflect the multipath transmission of UAVs. The multi-ray channel model considers UAV flights’ dynamic and 3-D nature and the conditions in which UAVs typically operate, including urban, suburban, and rural environments. A technique that calculates the received power at a target UAV within a networked airspace is also proposed, utilizing the reflective characteristics of UAV surfaces along with the multi-ray channel model. The developed multi-ray channel model further facilitates the characterization and performance evaluation of G2A and A2A communications. Additionally, this paper explores the effects of various factors, such as altitude, the number of UAVs, and the spatial separation between them on the power received by the target UAV. The simulation outcomes are validated by empirical data and existing theoretical models, providing comprehensive insight into the proposed channel modelling technique. Full article

The increasing demand for sustainable and renewable energy solutions has made radio frequency energy harvesting (RFEH) a promising technique for powering low-power electronic devices. RFEH captures ambient RF signals from wireless communication systems, such as mobile networks, Wi-Fi, and broadcasting stations, and converts them into usable electrical energy. This approach offers a viable alternative for battery-dependent and hard-to-recharge applications, including streetlights, outdoor night/security lighting, wireless sensor networks, and biomedical body sensor networks. This article provides a comprehensive review of the RFEH techniques, including state-of-the-art rectenna designs, energy conversion efficiency improvements, and multi-band harvesting systems. We present a detailed analysis of recent advancements in RFEH circuits, impedance matching techniques, and integration with emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, and wireless power transfer (WPT). Additionally, this review identifies existing challenges, including low conversion efficiency, unpredictable energy availability, and design limitations for small-scale and embedded systems. A critical assessment of current research gaps is provided, highlighting areas where further development is required to enhance performance and scalability. Finally, constructive recommendations for future opportunities in RFEH are discussed, focusing on advanced materials, AI-driven adaptive harvesting systems, hybrid energy-harvesting techniques, and novel antenna–rectifier architectures. This paper presents a comprehensive review of handover management and load balancing optimization (LBO) in ultra-dense 5G and emerging 6G cellular networks. With the increasing deployment of small cells and the rapid growth of data traffic, these networks face significant challenges in ensuring seamless mobility and efficient resource allocation. Traditional handover and load balancing techniques, primarily designed for 4G systems, are no longer sufficient to address the complexity of heterogeneous network environments that incorporate millimeter-wave communication, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The review focuses on how recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL), are being applied to improve predictive handover decisions and enable real-time, adaptive load distribution. AI-driven solutions can significantly reduce handover failures, latency, and network congestion, while improving overall user experience and quality of service (QoS). This paper surveys state-of-the-art research on these techniques, categorizing them according to their application domains and evaluating their performance benefits and limitations. Furthermore, the paper discusses the integration of intelligent handover and load balancing methods in smart city scenarios, where ultra-dense networks must support diverse services with high reliability and low latency. Key research gaps are also identified, including the need for standardized datasets, energy-efficient AI models, and context-aware mobility strategies. Overall, this review aims to guide future research and development in designing robust, AI-assisted mobility and resource management frameworks for next-generation wireless systems. Full article

5G private mobile networks are becoming a platform for ‘wire-free’ networking for professional applications in smart industry sectors, such as automated warehousing, logistics, autonomous vehicle deployments in campus environments, mining, material processing, and more. It is expected that most of these Machine-to-Machine (M2M) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) communication paths will be realized wirelessly, as the advantages of providing flexibility are obvious compared to hard-wired network installations. Unfortunately, the deployment of private 5G networks in smart industries has faced delays due to a combination of high costs, technical challenges, and uncertain returns on investment, which is reflected in troublesome access to fully operational private networks. To obtain insight into occupational exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF EMF) emitted by 5G private mobile networks, an analysis of RF EMF due to different types of 5G equipment was carried out on a real case scenario in the production and logistic (warehouse) industrial sector. A private standalone (SA) 5G network operating at 3.7 GHz in a real industrial environment was numerically modeled and compared with in situ RF EMF measurements. The results show that RF EMF exposure of the workers was far below the existing exposure limits due to the relatively low power (1 W) of indoor 5G base stations in private networks, and thus similar exposure scenarios could also be expected in other deployed 5G networks. In the analyzed RF EMF exposure scenarios, the radio transmitter—so-called ‘radio head’—installation heights were relatively low, and thus the obtained results represent the worst-case scenarios of the workers’ exposure that are to be expected due to private 5G networks in smart industries. Pedestrian behaviour and safety are essential components of urban sustainability. They are influenced by a complex interplay between various factors from different perspectives, particularly in culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. This study presents a comprehensive overview of the factors influencing pedestrian behaviour and safety with a focus on CALD communities. By synthesizing the existing literature, the study identifies six key groups of influencing factors: social–psychological, cultural, risk perceptions, environmental, technological distractions, and demographic differences. It discovers that well-designed interventions, such as tailored education campaigns and programs, may effectively influence pedestrian behaviour. These interventions emphasize the importance of targeted messaging to address specific risks (e.g., using mobile phones while crossing the road) and engage vulnerable groups, including children, seniors, and CALD communities. The study reveals that CALD communities face higher risks of pedestrian injuries and fatalities due to language barriers, unfamiliarity with local road rules, and different practices and approaches to road safety due to cultural differences. This study underlines the importance of developing and promoting tailored road safety education programs to address the unique challenges faced by CALD communities to help promote safer pedestrian environments for all. Background: Machine learning methods are increasingly being used in mobile network optimization systems, especially next-generation mobile networks. The need for enhanced radio resource allocation schemes, improved user mobility and increased throughput, driven by a rising demand for data, has necessitated the development of diverse algorithms that optimize output values based on varied input parameters. In this context, we identify the main topics related to cellular networks and machine learning algorithms in order to pinpoint areas where the optimization of parameters is crucial. Furthermore, the wide range of available algorithms often leads to confusion and disorder during classification processes. It is crucial to note that next-generation networks are expected to require reduced latency times, especially for sensitive applications such as Industry 4.0. Research Question: An analysis of the existing literature on mobile network load balancing methods was conducted to identify systems that operate using semi-automatic, automatic and hybrid algorithms. Our research question is as follows: What are the automatic, semi-automatic and hybrid load balancing algorithms that can be applied to next-generation mobile networks? Contribution: This paper aims to present a comprehensive analysis and classification of the algorithms used in this area of study; in order to identify the most suitable for load balancing optimization in next-generation mobile networks, we have organized the classification into three categories, automatic, semi-automatic and hybrid, which will allow for a clear and concise idea of both theoretical and field studies that relate these three types of algorithms with next-generation networks. Figures and tables illustrate the number of algorithms classified by type. In addition, the most important articles related to this topic from five different scientific databases are summarized. Methodology: For this research, we employed the PRISMA method to conduct a systematic literature review of the aforementioned study areas. Findings: The results show that, despite the scarce literature on the subject, the use of load balancing algorithms significantly influences the deployment and performance of next-generation mobile networks. This study highlights the critical role that algorithm selection should play in 5G network optimization, in particular to address latency reduction, dynamic resource allocation and scalability in dense user environments, key challenges for applications such as industrial automation and real-time communications. Our classification framework provides a basis for operators to evaluate algorithmic trade-offs in scenarios such as network fragmentation or edge computing. To fill existing gaps, we propose further research on AI-driven hybrid models that integrate real-time data analytics with predictive algorithms, enabling proactive load management in ultra-reliable 5G/6G architectures. Given this background, it is crucial to conduct further research on the effects of technologies used for load balancing optimization. This line of research is worthy of consideration. Full article

Reliable wireless communication is essential for mobile robotic systems operating in dynamic environments, particularly in the context of smart mobility and cloud-integrated urban infrastructures. This article presents an experimental study analyzing the impact of robot motion dynamics on wireless network performance, contributing to the broader discussion on data reliability and communication efficiency in intelligent transportation systems. Measurements were conducted using a quadruped robot equipped with an onboard edge computing device, navigating predefined trajectories in a laboratory setting designed to emulate real-world variability. Key wireless parameters, including signal strength (RSSI), latency, and packet loss, were continuously monitored alongside robot kinematic data such as speed, orientation (roll, pitch, yaw), and movement patterns. The results show a significant correlation between dynamic motion—especially high forward velocities and rotational maneuvers—and degradations in network performance. Increased robot speeds and frequent orientation changes were associated with elevated latency and greater packet loss, while static or low-motion periods exhibited more stable communication. These findings highlight critical challenges for real-time data transmission in mobile IoRT (Internet of Robotic Things) systems, and emphasize the role of network-aware robotic behavior, interoperable communication protocols, and edge-to-cloud data integration in ensuring robust wireless performance within smart city environments.
