Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

RNA viruses make up a large part of One-Health-relevant pathogens. RNA viruses have caused multiple epidemics/pandemics, epizootics, and epiphytotics, with the cataclysmic COVID-19 pandemic being an ongoing example. The abundance of RNA viruses can be attributed to high evolutionary adaptability, resulting in broad host ranges. Advances in virus detection and discovery methodologies have improved our understanding of the RNA virosphere and also provide contextual information for novel virus emergence and outbreak response. In addition to the evident implications of RNA virus discovery in public health, agriculture, and wildlife conservation, it can improve basic knowledge of RNA virus ecology and evolution. Together with massive, mostly high-throughput, sequencing-related, methodological improvements for RNA virus discovery, there are multiple longstanding and emergent challenges in the areas of virus genomic sequencing, viral genome discovery and annotation, isolation and characterization, host range determination, cataloguing and taxonomy, and ethical and practical implications of material and data use. With expanding global efforts in RNA virus discovery, we are launching a Special Issue aiming to provide a spotlight on current advances in the field.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Viruses is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
