Fifth International Workshop on HIV Persistence during Therapy

I am delighted to announce the Fifth International Workshop on HIV Persistence during Therapy, scheduled for December 6-9, 2011 at the Radisson St. Martin Hotel, St Martin.
Since the first edition of this workshop in 2003, the issue of “HIV Persistence & Reservoirs” has become more relevant, not only for the biologist but also for the clinician facing the problem of the long-term control of this persistent retroviral infection.

As effectively treated patients experience neurocognitive dysfunction, premature aging, and persistent inflammation, more attention is paid to these reservoirs. Furthermore, not all hope on finding a cure is scientifically lost. We have already made great strides in our search for a cure by a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in HIV persistence and are ready to test new strategies designed to achieve either a functional or a sterilizing cure.
This workshop is unanimously recognized as “The Reference Workshop on HIV Reservoirs & Eradication Strategies.” The program format will continue to follow the past successes and include presentation of new, unpublished data and a panel of experts to sum up the current advances in the field. The number of participants is limited and registration only possible for those having submitted a relevant abstract. As in the past, abstract selection will be extremely rigorous and conducted by the Scientific Committee.

I hope to see you in December in Saint Martin!
Alain Lafeuillade, MD, Chair
