Dear Colleagues,
Neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Multiple Sclerosis, represent a growing global health challenge. Early detection and precise characterization of these disorders are essential for improving early diagnosis, monitoring clinical and radiological progression, risk stratification, and evaluating therapeutic interventions. MRI plays a central role in these efforts by offering non‑invasive insights into structural, microstructural, and functional changes in the brain. Beyond conventional clinical imaging, advanced quantitative MRI techniques such as diffusion imaging, relaxometry, susceptibility mapping, and quantitative multiparametric approaches enable higher sensitivity for the detection of subtle and early pathological alterations that often precede clinical symptoms.
This Special Issue aims to highlight the latest developments in MRI-based detection and characterization of neurodegenerative diseases. We invite contributions that explore novel imaging characteristics, methodological innovations, and integrative approaches combining multimodal imaging, computational modeling, or machine learning. Topics may include, but are not limited to, myelin imaging, interstitial fluid dynamics, microvascular integrity, and brain network (covariance) analysis. Methods integrated with systemic physiology are also welcomed, shedding light on brain–body interactions. By integrating research on MRI techniques for neurodegeneration, this collection seeks to accelerate the translation of imaging biomarkers into clinical practice, enhancing early diagnosis, patient stratification, and monitoring of disease progression, ultimately contributing to better outcomes for individuals affected by neurodegenerative disorders.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
