Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Physical inactivity is a leading risk factor for early mortality. Despite the importance of being physically active, two groups of people are particular inactive: 1) older adults and 2) people with physical disability. Muscle fatigue, history of falls and fear of falling are barriers to older adults achieving higher levels of physical activity. Some neuro-musculoskeletal disorders, which affect upper and lower limbs movements, could also prevent younger adults to actively participate in physical activity. Technology could provide solutions to mobility problems confronted by older adults and individuals with physical disabilities.

This Special Issue focuses on new developments in rehabilitative/assistive devices that apply sensor-based and other technologies to improve mobility for older adults or persons who have a disability as well as outcome measurement for such devices. Review papers in these areas are also encouraged.
