Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Digitalisation is the core question of the construction indsutry's transformation. It has become a challanging task pushing policy makers, managers and pracitioners to innovate, desing and deliver projects with higher productivity and efficiency.

The Special Issue welcomes all technical endeavours, digital technology developments, case studies and field experimentations related to the built environment disciplines, mining and civil engineering carried out to address the community need, or current challenges and barriers. The applications of smartphones, ipads or tablets, and new mixed reality wearable devices and other advacned technologies that can potentially improve the process of construction and mining in terms of saftey, benefit and productivity are encouraged to be presented in this Special Issue.

This Special Issue invites all researchers to share their scholarly work concerning the development of advanced technologies that may facilitate the implementation of smart cities. It will cover topics such as:

  • Artificial Intelligence for Cloud-based Big Data Analytics and High-Performance Computing;
  • Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality;
  • Digital twin, 3D modeling, simulations and advanced visualisations;
  • Industry 4.0 and the digital twin for the building industry;
  • Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and/or Mixed Reality applications;
  • Robotics, additive manufacturing and 3D printing;
  • Big data algorithms and methods;
  • BIM and GIS applications and developments;
  • Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing (CC);
  • Context awareness for technologies and their applications;
  • Education with VR, AR, XR, BIM, GIS and 360 videos;
  • Dashboard development and visualisation technologies;
  • Human factors and human–computer interactions using the above-mentioned technologies;
  • Technology acceptance, adoption, diffusion, perception and implementation processes;
  • Technology integration practices and challenges;

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Technologies is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
