Quantum computation deals with a new and interdisciplinary field at the intersection of quantum mechanics, mathematics, computer science, and information theory. As quantum computers are believed to be capable of solving some problems that are intractable for today’s computers, the question of quantum supremacy must be investigated not only in practice but also from a a mathematical and theoretical point of view. The aim of this Special Issue is to allow deep coverage of new and original research on these topics and to raise important problems that can benefit from theoretical investigation and analysis, also considering symmetry and other mathematical properties of quantum algorithms for data processing.
Nonetheless, research interest is growing on the interplay between quantum computation and artificial intelligence, two areas that are embracing rapid, exciting advancements. The exchange of ideas, methods, and techniques between the corresponding communities of physics, mathemtics, engineering and computer science will greatly enrich the scope of these research areas, help to build beneficial connections, and provide fundamentally innovative ideas to solve core problems in all of the fields. This Special Issue on ‘Quantum Computing and Symmetry for Data Processing and Machine Learning’ is organized with the aim to foster collaboration between researchers from these fields and to promote research in this exciting new direction.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Symmetry is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
