Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The major issue underlying the continued deterioration of the global environment is unsustainable patterns of consumption and production, particularly in manufacturing industries. Remanufacturing is a manufacturing process that converts used products to a “like-new” functional state with the same or better product specification and function reliability. Remanufacturing could effectively solve resource shortage and environmental crisis, achieving sustainable development of the economy. Remanufacturing (Reman) process is a sustainable development process with significant developments in recent decades regarding theory, modeling, manufacturing technology, practice, and application cases.

The purpose of this Special Issue of Sustainability, “Sustainable Remanufacturing: Theory, Technology, and Practice”, is to focus on recent novel studies and developments in most facets of remanufacturing. A wide range of topics related to sustainable remanufacturing may be suitable, including but not limited to theory, definition, modeling, management, reverse supply chains, decision optimization for remanufacturing, the study and development of new technologies, additive manufacturing, and application case studies in the fields of remanufacturing in engine manufacturing, automobile industry, aerospace and aviation, energy and batteries, heavy machinery, etc. This Special Issue particularly welcomes articles that contribute to the theoretical development and analytical modeling regarding the modeling of remanufacturing and sustainability, impact on the environment of Reman, Reman and green manufacturing, reverse supply chain and resilience for the remanufacturing system, optimization of decision management, remanufacturing and product life cycle analysis, etc. It is expected that 20 to 25 high-quality articles will be contributed, resulting in compilation of the Special Issue as an e-book which will fill the gap in the current literature on remanufacturing system theory, analytical models, and technologies in practice.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
