Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Renewable energy sources have been booming over the last few decades. Their high penetration into power systems has reduced power generation costs and brought more environmental benefits. However, the inherent variability, intermittent, and stochastic characteristics of renewable sources have created remarkable risks for the power grid in terms of system planning, operation, and control. The electricity market design and operation have also been affected by the increasing penetration of renewable sources. For example, low-carbon power systems with high renewable penetration are the path to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality in China. In this context, it is urgent to develop innovative mechanisms of power systems and electricity markets.
The mixed power grid with massive renewable sources is increasingly complex. Potential emerging problems include the system-coordinated planning, operation, regulation, and markets. Therefore, this Special Issue is to address the above problems. More specifically, it is expected to put forward advanced theories and technologies of low-carbon power systems with the rapid development of renewable sources, so that a safe, efficient, and economical operation of the mixed power system is ensured.
Papers in the relevant areas of Planning, Operations, and Market of Low-Carbon Power Systems with High Renewable Penetration, including but not limited to the following issues, are invited:
- Issues of Low-Carbon Power Systems with High Renewable Penetration;
- System Expansion Planning for High Renewable Penetration;
- Optimal Operation of Low-carbon Power Systems;
- Power Forecasting of Renewable Sources and Low-carbon Systems;
- Electricity Market Design for Large-scale Renewable Sources Integration;
- Regulation and Business for Market Agents;
- Stochastic and Robust Optimizations with Large-scale Renewable Sources;
- Stability Assessment of Low-carbon Power Systems;
- Renewable Energy Transmission and Energy Storage;
- Control of Grid-connected Renewable Energy Systems.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
