Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This is a new and exciting area of research, clinical and mental health practice, community engagement, education, policy formation, social activism, and child- and youth-driven knowledge generation. I hope for a range of voices, perspectives, experiences and visions which can advise how to better protect and promote the mental health and wellbeing of children and youth, today and in the future. Issues of equality, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization and the social determinants of health play pivotal roles in shaping the lives and experiences as well as the resources and resilience of children and youth, particularly in relation to climate change, which amplifies existing issues. While this Special Issue invites authors to describe these challenges, equally, I encourage the use of intersectional, asset and strength-based approaches to also identify the knowledge, experience, wisdom and transformative capacities of children and youth, families, communities and professionals who work to strengthen mental health.

The purpose of this Special Issue is to consolidate and showcase the voices of those who are already articulating the links between climate change and mental health for children and youth in communities, schools and professional contexts across the globe, as well as to inspire future work in this critical areas of research, practice, education and governance.
