Special Issue Information
Dear colleagues,
Consumers are increasingly concerned about where their food comes from and pay great attention to whether it is produced responsibly, from farm to fork. Accordingly, the sustainability of food supply chains has gained attention and recognition from scholars, practitioners, and the public as it significantly impacts the environment through greenhouse gas emissions and solid wastes. Food supply chains are complex as they include different level actors, from those who produce and aggregate to those that add value to the product (processing) and those who sell into the next level (wholesale and retail). Therefore, there remains a substantial challenge ahead for the food industry to become more sustainable. The supply chain must be smart and adopt information and digital techniques and technologies (IDTTs) to overcome sustainability challenges over time. The present call for paper aims to enhance the understanding of the opportunities that IDTTs, such as Big Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, enterprise resource planning, Internet of Things, cloud computing, 3D printing, virtual reality, and remote sensing to address the challenges of the sustainable food supply chain, offer for sustainable food supply chain management. Furthermore, this Special Issue may serve as a forum for sharing theoretical and empirical insights into the drivers and barriers of adopting digital technologies in food supply chain management.
The editorial team cordially encourage various contributions, such as review studies, conceptual models, and empirical studies, which may address any of the following research contexts:
- Digital technologies and sustainable food supply chain;
- Role of digital and information technologies in accelerating sustainable performance;
- Drivers and barriers of adopting digital technologies in various areas of food supply chain;
- Digital technologies and waste reduction;
- Digital technologies and sustainable operations;
- Role of digital technologies in the closed-loop food supply chain.
