Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Currently, society is facing increasing challenges from environmental crises and resource unsustainability, and the call for green industry development is unanimous among the academic, political and business communities. According to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), green industry development is defined as a process that continues to expand at an industrial scale, eradicate poverty and create employment, making production and consumption patterns more sustainable. As a part of green economy, green industry development aims at promoting a sustainable and rapid growth of the industrial economy, balancing the relationships among economic growth, social stability and environmental friendliness, and achieving sustainable development.
The literature from different disciplines has offered a fruitful, diverse range of perspectives on the drivers of green industry development. For instance, the innovation policy literature focuses on understanding how transformative innovation policies address the challenges of a sustainable society such as environmental pollution, climate change, and resource depletion. The economic geography literature has increased the knowledge about the influences of spatial embeddedness and geographic resource endowment differences on the possibility of promoting green industry development. The corporate strategy literature also figures out the contributions of corporate environmental and sustainable strategies. However, we have so far had limited knowledge of different aspects affecting the development of green industry. The latest generation of cross fertilization among these disciplines offers new opportunities to fill the research gaps. Therefore, this Special Issue seeks in-depth studies which can contribute to the green industry development through a multidimensional, multidisciplinary, and multilevel perspective.
