Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

United Nation vision for inclusive and sustainable society by 2030 is spelled out through 17 SDGs and 169 targets aiming to stimulate action in critically important areas of humanity and environment. 193 states of United Nations adopted these goals in 2015, but implementation of these goals is of a challenge for these states and particularly in developing markets.

Businesses are the vital partners in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and will continue to be important in creating and achieving the SDGs. Multinational companies especially assume crucial importance in achieving SDGs in developing markets. Expertise, global supply chains and internal policies, scale of operations are some of the reasons for which multinational companies continue to remain important partners in achieving SDGs. Corporate Social Responsibility actions of multinational companies are another significant reason for multinational companies to have significant role to foster sustainable development in developing economies. But, developing markets face institutional challenges for implementation of SDGs. Institutional changes involving policy, governance, technology, and market related can play a critical role in transforming CSR into sustainable development of developing economies. Business strategies of multinational companies, specifically for implementation of CSR activities are, therefore, required to be investigated to study their potential in achievement of SDGs in developing markets. Participation of multinational companies in implementation of SDGs have both positive and negative impacts on people, planet, prosperity and peace envisioned in the UN 2030. Companies implement SDGs for image and public relations also and it drives rising trend in companies participation. Developing markets though bring both scope and impact scale for SDGs’ achievement, there are complexities in their implementation. Researches are therefore needed to provide deeper insights to companies for effective participation in achievement of SDGs.
