Special Issue Information
Dear colleagues,
Evidence suggests that in spite of the importance of college and career readiness (CCR), few students are adequately prepared for college or career post-high school. Further, although initiatives to improve CCR have increased, students with or at risk for of emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) are not fully benefiting from these initiatives. Poor post-secondary difficulties ensue, with significant under- and unemployment (Wagner et al., 2005) and individual and societal costs (Belfield and Levin, 2007).
Ensuring that high-school students with or at risk for EBD are adequately prepared for college or career is critical for preventing poor post-school outcomes and improving the chance of benefits associated with CCR. The intent of high-school CCR programs is to provide a successful transition between high school and college or work by providing students with the knowledge and skills needed for postsecondary success (Mishkind, 2014). The purpose of this Special Issue is to invite papers that explore and investigate CCR work with students of average intellectual functioning who have or are at risk for EBD and/or related social skill challenges. We welcome contributions from all the social sciences, including social work, social policy, sociology, anthropology, pedagogy, psychology, history, philosophy, and law, together with interdisciplinary papers. Articles might have theoretically and methodologically diverse approaches and can address CCR from conceptual, empirical, policy, and/or practice perspectives.
