Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Pharmacist prescribing can take many different forms: it can include collaborative models that include agreements with physician prescribers, prescribing by algorithm, and independent models where a pharmacist takes full responsibility for the enacted clinical decision. As pharmacist prescribing is a reality in an increasing number of jurisdictions, it is important to understand the evidence surrounding this element of practice, including improving patient outcomes, the education of pharmacists to undertake this role, and implementation strategies. We need to broaden our perspective on pharmacist prescribing to take it from the “Should we do this?” to “How do we do this?” Front-line pharmacists, decision-makers, policy influencers, and pharmacy educators all have a role in moving pharmacy prescribing forward. We want to share perspectives and opportunities with different models of prescribing, so we can learn from these experiences.
