Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is well known that pediatric pharmacotherapy is traditionally based on a reduced number of dosage forms. In many cases, adaptations need to be made from medications that are originally intended for adults, but this practice is not without risks such as incorrect dosing, adverse reactions, lack of adherence due to poor organoleptic characteristics, and, ultimately, therapeutic failure. Consequently, in recent years, many efforts have been directed toward overcoming these difficulties, primarily through the development of oral liquid forms such as solutions, suspensions, and emulsions.

However, recently, research in pediatric pharmacotherapy has undergone significant changes in terms of developments and goals. This new trend, promoted by organizations like the World Health Organization and the European Medicines Agency, has shifted research toward the design and development of new solid dosage forms, which combine safety and efficacy with the superior physical and chemical stability inherent to solids. This, in turn, facilitates the work of healthcare providers and treatment success.

This Special Issue will focus on the pharmaceutical formulation and development process of new solid dosage forms for pediatric patients. Original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include, but are not limited to, the following: orodispersible tablets (ODTs) and oral lyophilisates, minitablets and microtablets, chewable and dispersible tablets, oral films (orally dissolving films), multiparticulate systems (pellets, granules, and sprinkle formulations), 3D-printed pharmaceuticals for personalized pediatric dosing, and innovative solid-to-gel systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Pharmaceutics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
